This week witnessed a diverse set of events with new measures introduced by the government to unlock finance, mobility, and markets, along with leadership changes and strategic alliances in the business world nationwide.
Entrepreneurship programs also provided fresh opportunities for women-led enterprises, and new capital was accessed, while healthcare programs focused on awareness and prevention. Recognition platforms celebrated contributions often built away from the spotlight. On the sporting front, Indian women athletes added significant milestones at the Asian Games 2026, making the week particularly notable across disciplines.

Government Initiatives Expand Pathways for Women’s Economic Participation
For women looking to start or expand businesses, access to finance and customers continues to be an important part of the conversation.
Tamil Nadu is taking its Vetri Magalir Thozhilmunaivor Membattu Thittam to all 234 Assembly constituencies. Eligible women can apply for institutional loans between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 5 crore through TIIC, at an annual interest rate of 9.95%, with repayment available for up to nine years.MLAs have been asked to identify 10 prospective women entrepreneurs from each constituency for further evaluation.
In Kerala, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched Vanitham She-Mart, connecting women self-help groups and rural entrepreneurs with markets and consumers. More than 300 She-Mart stores are planned across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, supporting procurement, processing, branding, packaging, and retail activities.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh government plans to introduce 100 additional buses to improve women’s accessto schools, colleges, and workplaces. The proposal was discussed by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Road Transport and Bridges, alongside measures to address accident-prone areas and improve road designs.
These government initiatives highlight efforts to widen women’s access to finance, markets, mobility, and economic opportunities.
Leadership Moves & Strategic Partnerships Shaping India’s Business Landscape
India's business world is seeing a succession of leadership changes and strategic collaborations in education, media, aviation, consumer brands, sportswear, and human resources.These trends represent companies’ leadership team enhancements, market penetration and new growth avenues.
Preeti Aghalayam celebrated a major milestone in her three decades-long association with IIT Madras by becoming Director-in-Charge of IIT Madras Zanzibar in 2023, thus becoming the first woman to lead an IIT.She has worked across chemical engineering, research, teaching and institutional leadership and as part of her work at the Zanzibar campus, it has helped facilitate the international academic expansion of the campus.
Shraddhaa Shetty has entered the sportswear industry with Agilitas as their Brand Marketing Lead for Lotto, a leading Italian sportswear brand.Her first brand experience will be enhancing Lotto's brand equity, consumer connection, and brand positioning in the growing sportswear and athleisure market in India.
The consumer foods business has also witnessed remarkable progress with actor Madhuri Dixit joining the brand for a two-year association as its brand ambassador.The collaboration will help raise awareness for the brand's frozen vegetables and ready to cook products, and promote awareness of convenient food options among consumers.
Kaacon Sethi has been appointed as the CEO of Media Research Users Council India (MRUC), from 8th October 2026.She brings over 35 years of experience in the media, marketing, entertainment and business world and will lead MRUCI in the preparation for the relaunch of the Indian Readership Survey.
Aviation is another sector witnessing expansion, with Allied Aviation appointed as General Sales and Services Agent for SAS Cargo in India. The partnership will support five weekly Mumbai–Copenhagen cargo services and strengthen connectivity for Indian exporters.
Meanwhile, Suman Yadav has joined Wakefit as Chief Human Resources Officer, effective October 1, 2026. With over 25 years of HR experience across Amazon, Infosys BPM, NeonRay, and the Indian Army, she brings expertise in people strategy, talent management, organizational design, and workforce planning.
Women’s Livelihoods and Entrepreneurship Gain Fresh Support
Across India, initiatives supporting women are creating opportunities in entrepreneurship, livelihoods, mobility, and rural economic participation. In Bengaluru, TVS Motor Company partnered with She for Society and Taliru Foundation to launch 16 pink electric autos for women, with plans to expand the initiative to 100 vehicles.
In Delhi-NCR, WEneurs Forum introduced Project Saksham, a three-month entrepreneurship development program for underprivileged women micro-entrepreneurs. The initiative combines practical training, mentoring, networking, and grants of up to ₹50,000 for the top three participants to strengthen and expand their businesses.
Gujarat also expanded market opportunities for rural women through the ‘Motherhood Hamper’ catalogue, featuring handmade and locally produced goods created by Sakhi Mandal women across six districts. The initiative connects their products with the premium gifting market while supporting income generation and economic participation.
Meanwhile, thousands of women farmers gathered in Delhi for the All-India Women Farmer Conference, highlighting women’s contributions to agriculture, rural development, family incomes, organic farming, animal husbandry, seed conservation, and rural businesses. Several women farmers were also recognized for their contributions across different agricultural fields.
New Funding Backs Consumer Technology Growth
New Capital Supports Product Expansion, Technology Development & Wider Market Reach
Mumbai-based consumer technology brand EDT has raised $2.4 million in Pre-Series A funding, with the capital directed towards inventory, product development, supply chain and team expansion.
Founded by Naiyya Saggi and Vyasateja Rao, EDT is also entering the beauty technology segment with SUKI, a smart hair dryer powered by its patent-pending CareDry Algorithm. The company plans to introduce three more products across home, kitchen and beauty technology, while expanding its omnichannel presence and research and development efforts.
Healthcare Initiatives Put Awareness in Focus
Women’s healthcare gained attention through industry initiatives focused on clinical advancement, preventive care, and broader health awareness.
Fortis La Femme organized GYNAECON 2026, an event that attracted more than 100 doctors and healthcare professionals to share insights on the latest advancements in women's healthcare.The sessions included information on fertility, high-risk pregnancy, minimally invasive surgery, gynecological oncology, menopause, healthy ageing, endometriosis, infertility, gestational diabetes, robotic hysterectomy, GLP-1 therapies and precocious puberty.The conference highlighted the importance of lifelong learning, interprofessional working and person-centred care in various phases of women's life.
Meanwhile, Saffola Gold from Marico, in association with Zee Entertainment, launched “Dil Se Ladies First” around World Heart Day. The multi-platform campaign emphasizes on women's heart health and preventive care across television, Zee5, social media, creator-led storytelling, and a dedicated WhatsApp bot with heart-health information and resources.The initiative aims to encourage women to give greater attention to their cardiovascular health.

Women Awards Spotlight Contributions & Leadership
Woman's contributions, leadership and impact are receiving greater acknowledgment in all sectors and within communities; recent developments feature individual successes and workplace excellence.
‘We The Leaders', launched by K Annamalai, will award Kamaraj Awards to 12 women achievers of Tamil Nadu in the fields of education, agriculture, community development and social service on Gandhi Jayanthi.The awards seek to highlight women whose consistent efforts have created meaningful impact while receiving limited public recognition.
Meanwhile, Team Marksmen Network will host the 3rd Edition of Most Preferred Workplace for Women 2026–2027 on October 1 in Mumbai. Under the theme Championing Inclusion. Celebrating Leadership. The event is titled “Creating Impact” and will feature senior HR and business leaders talking about the role of women in leadership, workplace inclusion, reskilling and changing organizational cultures.The program will also honour organisations with excellent employee-centric and inclusive workplace practices.

Indian Women Athletes Shine at Asian Games 2026
India’s women athletes continued to make their mark at the Asian Games 2026, securing medals across squash, athletics, shooting, and archery. Their performances added several milestones to India’s campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
Anahat Singh became the first Indian woman to bag a silver medal in squash, women's singles.She made her dramatic return to the competition against Japan's Satomi Watanabe to make it to the final when she was defeated by Malaysia's runner-up Sivasangari Subramaniam.
Ancy Sojan Edappilly won her second straight Asian Games silver with a 6.53m jump in the long jump.China's Huang Yingying took the lead in last round with 6.55m with Ancy two centimetres behind for the gold medal.
Neeru Dhanda delivered another landmark performance in trap shooting, winning India’s first individual gold of the Games in the women’s event. She recorded 28 hits from 30 shots, setting a new Asian Games record and becoming the first Indian woman to win individual Asian Games trap gold.
India also claimed gold in women’s compound archery, with Preethika Pradeep, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Chikita Taniparthi defeating China 238-234. The Indian team posted the world record score of 238, further adding another medal to the tally of India.
These performances reflect the rising participation of Indian women in various sports at the continental level.
