Gujarat Launches Motherhood Hamper for Rural Women Entrepreneurs

An initiative aimed at empowering rural women entrepreneurs and connecting their products with the premium gifting market was launched in Gandhinagar on Wednesday with the release of the ‘Motherhood Hamper’ catalogue. The hamper showcases products made by Self-Help Group (SHG) women from across Gujarat.

The event was chaired by Gujarat Rural Development Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya and attended by Minister of State Sanjaysinh Mahida. They also launched the Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company Ltd (GLPC) booklet, ‘Sashakt Nari, Samruddh Samaj’, highlighting welfare schemes and initiatives for women associated with Sakhi Mandals.

Kunvarji Bavaliya stated, “The initiative aims to celebrate motherhood, promote traditional Gujarati handicrafts and local products, and provide rural women entrepreneurs with a professional marketing platform.” He added, “Self-reliance is not just a means of earning income, but also a symbol of women’s pride, dignity and economic empowerment.” Bavaliya emphasized that rural women are becoming self-reliant through government schemes and contributing to the vision of an “Aatmanirbhar Gujarat to Aatmanirbhar Bharat”.

The ‘Motherhood Hamper’ catalogue features seven different hampers made by Sakhi Mandals from six different districts – Junagadh, Jamnagar, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Kutch and Surat. The hampers include handmade baby-care stitches for Mommy and Baby, swaddle wraps, quilts, Ajrakh and Bandhani clothes, handmade pouches, A2 Gir cow ghee, dry fruits, healthy laddus made of protein and millet, herbal products and self-care items. The price of the products ranges from Rs 1499 to Rs 2599 and customization options are available.

The GLPC booklet offers brief details of schemes, skill training programs, financial assistance, Saras Melas, natural farming, Gram Haats, exhibitions and e-commerce platforms for the benefit of the Sakhi Mandal women. Dr. Prashasti Pareek, Managing Director of GLPC, gave the welcome address and explained the project.

Kailashben Solanki, one of the five women working with ‘Bahuchar Mission Mangalam’ Sakhi Mandal of Shahpur village in Gandhinagar taluka of Ahmedabad has said they are making school bags, cell phone covers and tiffin covers at their home. The group earns Rs 25,000 monthly and since then it has boosted their confidence and livelihood, she said.

GLPC Joint Managing Directors, Rajshree Kushwaha and Shobhna Verma, senior officials, GLPC representatives and Sakhi Mandal women also attended the event.
