India won its seventh gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after the women’s compound archery team defeated China in the final in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Wednesday. Preethika Pradeep, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Chikita Taniparthi secured the title with a 238-234 victory.
The Indian trio maintained control throughout all four rounds and consistently kept China under pressure. Their composed performance helped India finish at the top of the women’s compound team event and add another gold medal to its Asian Games tally.
The victory also saw India match the world record score of 238 in the event. The mark was previously set by South Korea in 2014, with India now equaling the record with its winning performance.

The opening round of the women's gold medal match with China was supposed to be the deciding round of a battle to be played out over the next few days. India had a good start, after which Preethika, Jyothi and Chikita finished the first round with a 60-58 lead. The Indian team continued to hold on to its advantage in the second round. When India got the ball back, they had built up a 119-116 lead at the end of the round.
Every one of the points was significant in this close finish but the margin was never far from the surface. India continued to hold the lead from the first round itself and Chikitha and Prithika got their maiden gold medals at the Asian Games.
After the first couple of rounds, the Indian trio had the lead firmly in hand and needed to keep it in the final rounds. Preethika Pradeep and Chikita Taniparthi, Jyothi Surekha Vennam excelled in the pressure.
India dominated the game in the third round 178-175, before coming up with a perfect finish in the final round. They all scored perfect 10s in the final round to secure a 238-234 win over China and tie the world record. It is India's 21st silver and 25th bronze medal at the Asian Games, giving the nation a total of 53 medals, of which 21 are silver and 25 bronze.
