Women’s entrepreneurial journey is taking on a new dimension, with ideas evolving into enterprises and enterprises creating wider economic value.
As markets become more accessible and support systems grow stronger, women are finding new ways to build, expand, and sustain ventures while creating opportunities beyond their own businesses.
WER, this week, collates stories that reflect this wave of momentum: Women professionals are placing top roles in public service, health care, security, finance and business strategy; brands and start-ups are developing new ways with campaigns, content, and investment.
From grassroots businesses and community initiatives to historic sports and public life achievements, demonstrate how women are influencing economies, institutions, industries, and communities, as well as how they are becoming more visible and recognized.
Women’s Enterprises Advancing Economic Independence
Governments are increasingly prioritizing market access, digitalization, capacity development, and the search for sustainable income opportunities for women-led
businesses, while institutional support is on the rise.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida of Odisha government has appealed for greater support to women-led entrepreneurs in the “Mission Shakti” with a focus on quality, competitiveness and sustainability of enterprises.
In her address in Bhubaneswar at the state-level seminar-cum-review meeting, Pravati emphasized the importance of improved market access and capacity creation and technology adoption to enhance the income of women and enhance rural livelihoods. The state is continuing the drive for economic empowerment and sustainable livelihood for women through various initiatives like Lakhpati Didi and MahaLakhpati Didi.
Women Empowerment, Finance, & Entrepreneurial Growth
Women’s entrepreneurship is gaining stronger support through initiatives focused on market access, finance, innovation and economic participation across India and beyond. In India, The Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav 2026 in India is gathering women entrepreneurs, MSMEs, start-ups and other business groups on a national platform to participate in the event and get a platform to market their products and connect with customers, investors and business partners.
In Mandya, Sthree Mart is proposed as a separate marketplace for women entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups. The initiative aims to enhance product visibility, facilitate self-employment and help women to have regular income generation channels through the local markets.
Digital platforms are also opening new opportunities. India’s Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has expanded procurement access for women-owned businesses
and MSMEs, helping smaller enterprises participate in government purchasing through a transparent digital system. With transactions crossing ₹20 lakh crore, the platform is strengthening opportunities for businesses to reach institutional buyers.
CII-IWN organized an interactive session on AI Workshop for women entrepreneurs and professionals at Chandigarh. The initiative aims to address funding, networking, mentorship, and capacity gaps while supporting sustainable ventures.
Finance remains another important area of support. Indonesia’s Pre-prosperous Women Credit access is providing women from low-income households with financing of up to IDR 15 million at an 8% annual rate, alongside business training and financial education. The initiative could benefit millions of women engaged in ultra-micro businesses.
Women’s participation is also being encouraged in climate and energy-related sectors. A proposed grant initiative aims to support women-led climate adaptation solutions through funding, technology, capacity building and networking. In Malaysia, women are being urged to play a more active role in the nation’s green energy transition, including leadership in policy, investment and technology.
Meanwhile, Rural Dhofar 2026 in Oman is creating market opportunities for more than 60 women entrepreneurs and productive families by showcasing agricultural, food, fisheries, honey and natural products.
Programs, Initiatives & Platforms Supporting Women’s Growth
New programs, awards and initiatives are expanding opportunities for women to create stronger businesses, communities and impact across regions. From entrepreneurship and health research to cultural preservation and market access, these efforts highlight the growing focus on supporting women through meaningful platforms.
The Suyashakthi Awards were awarded to the women achievers from various fields such as education, literature, social service, food, art and culture for their efforts
and to urge more women to follow their dreams. Likewise, nine women entrepreneurs were honored in the Homepreneur Awards 2026 across various industries such as healthcare, education, food, wellness, arts, and digital media from Tamil Nadu and the Tamil community around the world.
Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women is offering financial, leadership, marketing and business strategy executive education for women entrepreneurs in India, all funded. The program is delivered in partnership with the Institute of Management Studies (IIM), Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Lucknow with the objective of empowering women to grow their businesses sustainably.
In the healthcare industry, Haleon and ASTAR IHDP initiated the ISMOS clinical study to investigate the metabolic health of midlife Asian women, filling the scope of clinical research gaps in women's health to promote healthy ageing.
Elsewhere, Ramraj Cotton’s Panchaa initiative is helping empower Odisha’s tribal women weavers by bringing Mayurbhanj’s traditional Santhali weave to modern consumers while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. The IMC Ladies’ Wing’s Women Entrepreneurs’ Exhibition will also bring together 300+ women entrepreneurs in Mumbai, promoting business visibility, collaboration, sustainability and market access.
Adding a cultural dimension, an African Women’s Day Event in Johannesburg recognised Hindu women leaders for their contributions to business, education, wellness, arts and community service, alongside a fashion showcase celebrating India’s diverse traditions.
Leadership Moves across Government & Industry
The latest leadership appointments highlight the growing presence of experienced women professionals across government, healthcare, entertainment, financial
services, insurance, and corporate strategy. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee has been appointed Higher Education Secretary, bringing her administrative experience to a key education portfolio. Meanwhile, Soniya Nityanand has secured a second consecutive term as Vice-Chancellor of King George’s Medical University, with a renewed focus on patient care, academics, research, infrastructure, and digitization.
In the security sector, Sanjukta Parashar, popularly known as the “Iron Lady of Assam,” has taken charge as Inspector General in the CRPF on central deputation. Her extensive experience in counter-insurgency and community policing adds strong operational expertise to the role.
The corporate sector has also witnessed notable appointments. Shveta Arya has been appointed as the Group Chief Strategy Officer (CISO) at Mahindra Group, in charge of strategic planning for growth and value creation. Sarah M. George joins the Board of Muthoot FinCorp as an Independent Director with over 30 years of experience in audit, governance and assurance and in strategy.
Archana Kalpathi has been selected to the HR&CE state level committee to shortlist the non-hereditary temple trustees in Tamil Nadu. Vandana Baluni joins Ageas Federal Life Insurance as an Actuary bringing to the table more than 17 years of leadership experience in insurance and actuary fields.
These appointments follow the rise of women in strategic decision making and public administration, healthcare, security, governance and financial services.
Brands in Focus: Campaigns, Content & Consumer Engagement
Brands have turned to clever promotions and innovative content-based platforms to build consumers' relationships and draw attention to shifting market demands. HOMEFOIL has now embarked on a new campaign featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan as Brand Ambassador to create innovative wrapping solutions, freshness and food
safety campaign through humour and storytelling.
However, Myntra Glamstream has announced the rollout of the podcast called FoundHer, which will showcase women entrepreneurs who are the biggest force behind revolutionizing new D2C brands such as SUTA, FAE Beauty, Soulflower and Nish Hair.
Combined, the efforts are a testament to how brands are leveraging storytelling, innovation and consumer-centric experiences to foster deeper relationships and enable new growth and women entrepreneurship.
Funding Spotlight: Technology-Driven Mobility Growth
The mobility and driving education industry in India is seeing the growing adoption of technology and funding is being secured by startups to create smarter, safer solutions. Samiksha Agarwal's-founded Lane has raised Rs 8.5 crore in a pre-seed round led by Kae Capital. The capital will help the startup grow its operations, bolster its teaching cadre, enhance sensor technology and scale its car ownership services.
India Begins Women’s Hockey World Cup Campaign
Women's hockey draws the attention of the sport community for the start of the FIH Women's Hockey World Cup 2026 from August 15 in the Netherlands and Belgium. India, captained by Salima Tete, has been drawn in Pool D with the other nations - China, South Africa and England. The Indian team will play its first game of the series against China on August 16 with a target of beating its fourth-placed record.
Women Achieve New Milestones and Break Barriers
Women continue to establish significant achievements in sports, governance, entertainment, education and philanthropy. Indian-origin chess prodigies Bodhana Sivanandan, 11, and Shreyas Royal, 17, made history at the 2026 British Chess Championships. Bodhana became Britain’s youngest women’s champion.Ashmita Chaliha is the first Indian woman to win the Korea Masters title and earn her first BWF World Tour Super 300
.
In civic leadership, Parveen Saini became Hoshiarpur’s first woman mayor after winning six successive elections. Meanwhile, Madhuri Dixit was named host of Kon Honar Crorepati, becoming the first woman to host a KBC franchise and marking her return to television hosting after 24 years.
The achievements also extend to philanthropy, with Supria Dhanda becoming the Goa Institute of Management’s first woman Founding Donor after contributing ₹1.025 crore to its Endowment Fund. GIM also named a student residence hall after her, as well as recognizing her on its Star Walk.
These milestones are a testament to women shattering norms, assuming influential roles, and establishing new benchmarks. Through their achievements they demonstrate the growing influence and participation of women in the development of sport, public leadership, entertainment, education and institutional development, inspiring the next generation to dream big.
