Mandya Plans 'Sthree Mart' to Boost Women Entrepreneurs
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Tuesday, 11 August 2026
A 'Sthree Mart' is planned to be set up in Mandya town to increase the involvement of women in economic activity through market exclusively built for businesses run by women and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The market is anticipated to provide women with an organized platform for marketing their products and earning steady incomes.
It is aimed at creating an environment which will be conducive for women who are currently involved in small scale production activities and those who wish to join self employment. With better access to a market, both women entrepreneurs and SHG members can have their products become more visible while creating better business opportunities.
The initiative aims to become an entrepreneurial hub that showcases women’s talent and ventures along with livelihood creation and network building.
Key Highlights:
- ‘Sthree Mart’ planned to offer women entrepreneurs dedicated platform to sell their products
- The initiative will support women-led SHGs and promote self-employment in Mandya
- The mart aims to expand market access, boost incomes and create local livelihood opportunities
The upcoming mart is supposed to offer a common retail platform for women’s SHGs and small-time entrepreneurs where they can display and sell various products. This market place is expected to integrate various categories of goods like food products, finest handicrafts, house hold goods, and many others produced by local people. This will increase visibility and allow the entrepreneurs to come into contact with consumers directly.
It will also seek to enhance the role of women in the entire value chain process involving them not just in production process but also in sales and marketing. This will foster more women engagement in leading entrepreneurial growth and activities.
Mandya MLA P. Ravikumar Gowda Ganiga made a trip to the proposed site on Monday where he conducted an analysis of the same together with the government officials. The main areas of discussion included the development strategy for the project, space utilization as well as the necessary infrastructural requirements.
Ravikumar highlighted that economic independence of women forms one of the key factors of strong family and a robust society. He stated that it was important to provide opportunities to women to engage themselves in self-employment and earn income independently, while ensuring market platforms available to sell their products.
Ravikumar also emphasized the need for making women economically independent and financially stable for a growing economy.
Through its assistance in both production and marketing, the program aims to empower women to have more control over their businesses. The use of a centralized market might make products more visible and create better sales prospects, which would allow women to shift from informal income-generation activities to more organized entrepreneurial ventures. This would also result in job creation in the area.
The inspection team included Mandya Zilla Panchayat CEO K. R. Nandini, Mandya City Municipal Council Commissioner Pampashree, and many others.
