Archana Kalpathi Joins Tamil Nadu HR&CE Temple Trustee Panel
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Tuesday, 11 August 2026
Film producer and AGS Entertainment CEO Archana Kalpathi Aghoram has been appointed to a reconstituted state-level committee of Tamil Nadu’s Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department. The seven-member panel will shortlist candidates for non-hereditary trustee positions at temples with annual incomes exceeding ₹10 lakh.
Key Highlights:
- Archana Kalpathi joins Tamil Nadu’s HR&CE trustee panel
- Panel will select trustees for temples earning over ₹10 lakh
- Committee will serve a two-year term from July 24, 2026
The committee will serve a two-year term from July 24, 2026, following the expiry of the previous panel. It will assess eligible applicants and prepare a list of candidates for appointment as non-hereditary trustees to temples administered by the HR&CE Department.
Thavathiru Sivagnana Balaya Swamigal of Bommapuram Aadheenam, Mayilam, heads the committee, while retired District and Sessions Judge Dr K Ramanathan serves as vice-chairman. Archana is among the five members, alongside retired IAS officer P R Sampath, Ma Sumathi alias Sumathisri and Dr Tha Velmurugan. The HR&CE Commissioner will serve as the ex-officio member and secretary.
Archana brings a prominent background in Tamil cinema to the committee. As CEO and creative producer at AGS Entertainment, she has played a key role in the company’s expansion across film production, distribution and cinema exhibition. Her production credits include Vijay-starrer Bigil (2019) and The Greatest of All Time (GOAT, 2024), along with the commercially successful Love Today (2022).
An engineering graduate from Anna University, Archana later earned a master’s degree in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo before joining her family’s entertainment business. Her appointment has attracted attention because of her position in Tamil cinema and her inclusion on a committee overseeing trustee appointments at temples that manage religious assets. The development has also triggered political commentary over the selection of individuals associated with the film industry for government-linked positions. Government sources have maintained that such appointments were made based on merit and administrative considerations.
The appointment also comes against the backdrop of several individuals associated with the Tamil film industry receiving government positions following actor Vijay’s entry into politics. Producer K Venkata Narayana, associated with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, was earlier appointed Special Representative of the Tamil Nadu government in New Delhi.
Other appointments involving individuals linked to Vijay have also generated political debate. Cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa was appointed Chairman/President of the MGR Government Film and Television Training Institute in Taramani. Meanwhile, an appointment involving Vijay’s astrologer Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel was withdrawn following political opposition.
