Major Government and Judicial Decisions Expand Support for Women

From entrepreneurship and legal reforms to social welfare, recent government and judicial decisions are creating stronger systems that support women at every stage of life.

A new initiative in Karnataka, led by the state government, FICCI FLO Bengaluru and the FLO Bengaluru Industrial Park Association will provide women entrepreneurs with access to funding, mentorship, government programs, industry networks and manufacturing infrastructure, helping more women entrepreneurs to grow and become global players. The Karnataka state government has announced a new women-centric health initiative titled ‘Ruthutare’, aimed at promoting women’s health and overall well-being, according to Health Minister U T Khader.

In the meantime, the Supreme Court gave two judgments that benefit the rights of women. It has allowed women Short Service Commission officers who were denied Permanent Commission with flawed assessment practices to receive full pension benefits so that they can get the recognition and financial security they are entitled to.

 The Court also pushed for greater gender diversity within the legal profession by directing every State Bar Council to induct two women as co-opted members, calling for an end to the long-standing underrepresentation of women in these institutions.

In parallel, the Uttar Pradesh government launched free bus service on State Roadways to senior citizens (women only) and hiked investments in women-centric welfare schemes. The shift is anticipated to enhance the mobility, financial security and social security of the elderly women.

Women Empowerment Initiatives enhance Skills, Funding and Business Growth

Women-led entrepreneurship is gaining stronger support through new programs, digital tools and policy-driven initiatives across regions.

In Mangaluru, Vishwa Konkani Kendra and Vardhani assisted 50 women entrepreneurs in a business skill and networking workshop, along with business extension strategies. In the meanwhile, FLO Hyderabad's session From Idea to IPO where, Ghazal Alagh shared practical lessons from her entrepreneurial journey and encouraged women founders to build sustainable businesses.

Sarawak launched the Women Entrepreneurship Dashboard in the country to provide more data-driven support by providing greater access to training, financing and development programs, globally. Similarly, Kazakhstan has set up a national platform to track financing of women entrepreneurs, allowing the policy advisors to pinpoint constraints in financing and improve access to finance.

It reflects the growing step taken to build more inclusive environments for women entrepreneurs to bring their business to scale through resources, knowledge and opportunities.

Advancing Healthcare and Style through Strategic Brand Moves

From healthcare innovation to fashion partnerships, brands are strengthening their presence through technology, collaborations, and consumer-focused initiatives.

To enhance women-centric healthcare services, The Women's Hospital (TWH) has introduced SSI Mantra Generation 3 Surgical Robotic System, the made-in-India product which has allowed the hospital to expand surgical advanced minimally invasive surgery in various specialties. The technology improves the accuracy of surgery, aids in quicker recovery and further exemplifies TWH's dedication to accessible, compassionate and technologically advanced patient care.

On the other hand, Daniel Wellington has announced that Bollywood actor Sharvari has been appointed as the brand's brand ambassador for the watches segment, as a part of its India growth strategy after it was acquired by a Timex Group. The partnership was unveiled during a secret presentation in Mumbai—showcasing the brand's traditional Scandinavian designs that resonate with India's youth-focused and style-driven population.

Women-Led Startups Accelerate Growth & Innovation

Bengaluru-based women-led athleisure startup BlissClub has secured ₹160 crore in funding led by Singularity AMC to fuel retail expansion, product innovation, and business growth. Founded by Minu Margeret, the brand aims to strengthen its omnichannel presence while addressing the evolving needs of Indian consumers. The investment marks another milestone in BlissClub’s journey toward becoming a leading player in the country’s activewear market.

Leadership Moves Spotlight Women across Business, Science, and Defence

Women leaders are increasingly playing pivotal roles in strategic decision-making and organizational transformation, within the corporate world and in public institutions, science, and defence. Recent appointments demonstrate the role of highly informed women professionals leading innovation, job creation, research and progress in various fields of the country.

Dr Helen Li Hongyu has been appointed Managing Director for Hong Kong & Mainland China, where she will provide leadership for integrated services and facilitate the region's development growth by the major government-led projects. Jigyasa Sharma was promoted to Director, where she will lead AI-inspired learning, workforce transformation and strategic partnerships in APAC, Middle East and HSBC GSC to support organizations in creating future-ready talent.

Triveni Parab joined Airspan Networks after a decade of service, and was promoted to Director, Human Resources – India. She will be responsible for talent management, leadership development and workforce planning, as the company continues to expand its 4G/5G and Open RAN technology offerings. Former Karegaon sarpanch and social media influencer Nirmala Nawale has taken a significant leap in her political journey after being appointed as the Maharashtra State President of NCP’s Yuvati Congress. 

In Navy, Capt. Bae Sun-young the first female to lead a captain-class warship since its founding in 1945, in addition to the corporate world. She would command one of the Navy's most important amphibious assault ships, ROKS Dokdo, which will be the first for women to take the helm.

In the meantime, India also made another historic milestone as the Geological Survey of India's (GSI) paleontologist Varsha Ashok Aglawe became the first female Director General of the geospatial organization in its 176-year history. She brings over 30 years of experience and will be leading critical mineral exploration, geoscientific research and capacity-building efforts, further strengthening women's leadership in the growing influence of women leaders in industry and public institutions globally.

Women Mark Historic Milestones across Military, Science, Sports and Adventure

Women in India and globally are breaking records in military hierarchy, space science, sports, and in empowering the next generation to follow their lead. The new milestones reflect the growing trend towards inclusive leadership, resilience and success in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Women continue to script history across defence, science, sports, and adventure, proving that barriers are steadily giving way to opportunity. In India, Sqn. Lt. Bhawana Kanth became the first Indian Air Force Female Officer to join the prestigious Fighter Combat Leader course and Col. Sphurti Kulkarni became the first Woman in Indian Air Force to lead the 45 Task Force of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Project Chetak.

In Global, Ozlem Iyidilli Karapınar was the first female Brigadier General in the Turkish Air Force, an achievement that was a major step by women in military leadership worldwide.

The first Indian woman to win the COSPAR Vikram Sarabhai Medal 2026 is Professor Annapurni Subramaniam from the Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Gokulam University, in Ernakulam. Her work in stellar astronomy, AstroSat and International space research is well known for its pioneering efforts and reinforces India's contributions to the global scientific community and her as an inspiration for women in STEM.

Sporting arenas witnessed equally remarkable milestones. For the first time in the history, Chou Ling-wen was elected as the first female president of the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association.

Uma Hazra was the first Odia girl to complete the entire Ironman Triathlon and young cyclist Harshita Jakhar became the first Indian women to participate in the Tour de France Femmes under the UCI World Cycling Talent program in Endurance sports. Meanwhile, Japan's most honoured female Olympian, speed skating legend Miho Takagi, was named the People's Honor Award winner, which would be the first speed skater to receive that honor after retirement. Young cyclist Harshita Jakhar made history as the first Indian woman to be in the Tour de France Femmes here.

Adventure and mountaineering also showcased women's growing determination. Eleven Odisha women climbers led by Anita Swain will be climbing Mount Yunam and hoisting an 80-metre Indian flag on Independence Day as a tribute to courage, patriotism and empowerment of women. Their journey is an example of women's growing involvement in adventure sports and is fostering a new generation of young girls to become resilient leaders through their teamwork.

Women's Sports Reach New Heights with India's Boxing Glory

At Glasgow 2026, India's women boxers led the country's historic boxing campaign with five golds and secured the country's best-ever boxing campaign with 10 golds overall. Sakshi Chaudhary, Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Priya Ghanghas and Arundhati Choudhary displayed outstanding performances. They also contributed to India's 4th place finish of 39 medals, which has highlighted the strength and growth of Indian women in competitive sports and their global journey.
