Nirmala Nawale Appointed NCP Yuvati Congress State President

Social media influencer and former Karegaon sarpanch Nirmala Nawale has been appointed as the Maharashtra State President of the Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) Yuvati Congress, the women's wing of its youth organisation. The appointment marks a significant step in her political journey, elevating her from grassroots leadership to a prominent state-level role within the party.

The appointment was announced as part of a wider organisational reshuffle by the NCP. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and party leader Sunetra Pawar formally handed Nirmala her appointment letter during a ceremony held at the Devgiri government residence in Mumbai. The decision was also confirmed in an official communication issued by Maharashtra NCP President Sunil Tatkare.

Congratulating Nirmala on her new responsibility, Tatkare expressed confidence that she would strengthen the party's organisational network while effectively communicating its ideology and policies across Maharashtra. The appointment is expected to enhance the party's engagement with young women and expand its grassroots presence ahead of future political campaigns.

Hailing from Karegaon in Shirur taluka of Pune district, Nirmala holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Information Technology. She entered public life in 2021 when she became the unopposed sarpanch of Karegaon at the age of 27, gaining attention as one of Maharashtra's young and educated village leaders.

During her tenure as sarpanch, Nirmala focused on technology-driven governance and oversaw development projects worth nearly ₹72 crore. These initiatives included improvements to roads, water supply, electricity infrastructure and sanitation facilities, earning recognition for her administrative approach and commitment to local development.

Alongside her political career, Nirmala has built a strong presence on social media. With more than 570,000 followers on Instagram, she has become one of Maharashtra's most recognised political influencers. Several of her reels and videos have attracted millions of views, helping her connect with audiences well beyond her constituency. She has frequently used digital platforms to engage with young people and women while promoting public awareness and political participation.

Before her latest appointment, Nirmala served as the Working President of the NCP Yuvati Congress. In her new role, she succeeds Sandhya Sonawane and is expected to lead the organisation's efforts to mobilise young women, strengthen female political participation and address issues affecting women across the state.

Her elevation comes despite a recent electoral setback. Earlier this year, Nirmala contested the Panchayat Samiti election from Karegaon but lost to Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Manisha Pachange by around 2,700 votes. Nevertheless, the NCP leadership has continued to place its confidence in her organisational abilities and public outreach.
