Guidelines Released for Co-location of Anganwadi Centres with Schools

- The Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of Education launched new guidelines for establishing Anganwadi Centres in schools
- Union Ministers Annpurna Devi and Dharmendra Pradhan were also at the release
- The guidelines aim to better link early childhood education with schooling
The launch of the Guidelines for Co-location of Anganwadi Centres with Schools was organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi where Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) collaborated with the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education for launching.
Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and MoWCD and MoE officials and the state and UT representatives and Anganwadi workers had attended the launch.
The program, launched under the banner "From Anganwadi to School – One Campus, One Vision", seeks to facilitate an easy transition for children from early childhood care to school.
With over 2.9 lakh Anganwadi Centres already working on the school campus, the guidelines aim for operational clarity, helping states and UTs to further ramp up this convergence model. The objectives of the framework include: School readiness and smooth transitions for children from Anganwadi Centres to Class 1; Increasing linkages between Anganwadi and primary schools to promote stimulating learning and care for children's growth and development in all domains; and Improved retention at the primary school level for better learning.
Minister Annpurna Devi stated that the model of co-location will assist in making children's learning foundations stronger and will be a source of overall development for them, keeping with the vision of having a healthy and educated young generation.
Minister Dharmendra Pradhan added that aligning Anganwadis with schools makes early childhood education a strong foundation for lifelong learning and foundational literacy and supports the vision of Viksit Bharat.
