Yamunanagar's daughter of the city, Fire Department official Gulshan Kalra, and proud daughter Kashish Kalra have scored a brilliant 111th rank in the much-desired UPSC Civil Services Examination. Her friends, family, and local organizations received and welcomed her back to her hometown on Sunday with honors.

Kashish, a high-achiever throughout her life in academics, pursued her Class 10 from a private school in Yamunanagar and her higher secondary from a private college in New Delhi. She graduated from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi. Surprisingly enough, she accomplished this in her second attempt.

On a special felicitation ceremony, Kashish spoke with gratitude, attributing her success to hard work, her parents' and mentors' consistent support, and valuable advice for aspirants to come. Her parents, Kavita and Gulshan Kalra, also shared their pride, remembering Kashish's scholastic excellence, such as being the Class X topper at school and having consistently high academic performance through the years. They highlighted her discipline and willpower from childhood.

While addressing the participants in a speech, Kashish talked about the importance of having clearly defined objectives and regular practice. She appreciated the importance of support from family and guidance for her success, and further said, "This achievement is not just mine, but a proud moment for my family and my city."

Sharing her dreams, Kashish stated, "I think civil service is a platform for good. I want to serve in public service, social welfare, and bring substantial changes in health, education, public safety, and women empowerment." She emphasized that developing skills among the youth is vital for the country's development.

Inspiring candidates, Kashish highlighted that there are plenty of online resources available now that enable one to prepare for competitive exams at home without having to shift base. Talking about women empowerment, Kashish said that while Haryana's sex ratio has improved, there is still room for growth. She also emphasized the need to take care of the growing population of elderly people.

Thinking about the issues in society, Kashish added, "We are progressing towards gender equality, but every day there is a need to make sure that no woman is discriminated against in education, healthcare, or employment. Equality has to reach the personal spaces as well, and there is a need to educate women and men both."
