Women's Day Special: Leaders on the Power of Diverse Workplaces
By: WE Staff
Ranjana Maitra, Country Head International Relations & Strategic Partnerships, University of New Haven

Ranjana Maitra is a business leader with over three decades of experience driving innovation, digital transformation, and global growth across healthcare, life sciences, and education sectors.
What advantages do companies gain from diverse workforces and leadership teams?
Diversity is not a moral checkbox; it is a competitive advantage. Companies that embrace diverse leadership outperform because they think broader, act smarter, and respond faster. When different perspectives sit at the decision-making table, blind spots shrink and innovation expands. Over my three decades in the corporate world, industry platforms, and global academic collaborations, I have seen how diverse teams challenge complacency and elevate performance. They build credibility with stakeholders and foster inclusive cultures that attract top talent. Diversity is not optional; it is outcome-driven and must be championed from the top. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, the real progress lies in turning intent into measurable impact and it needs to be practised every day.
Can you share the mantra or philosophy that keeps you going?
My mantra is simple: under commit and over deliver and show up every day. Promise thoughtfully, execute relentlessly. I believe in giving your best shot every single time, with full energy, passion, and conviction. When you believe in yourself, you don’t wait for validation; you create value. I approach every responsibility with ownership and intensity, because excellence is a habit, not an accident. Stay disciplined. Stay authentic. Meet challenges head-on. Confidence backed by preparation is unstoppable, and always stay grounded, because nothing is permanent. This International Women’s Day, my message to women is clear: own your voice, own your space, and never.
