Smriti Mandhana to lead Three-Match ODI Series against Ireland
By: WE Staff | Monday, 6 January 2025
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that the Indian women's cricket team will lead a three-match ODI series against Ireland on January 10, 2025, with opener Smriti Mandhana taking the lead. Regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur and pacer Renuka Singh Thakur have been rested due to injuries and recovery. Smriti will lead the team in the absence of the captain Kaur, who suffered a knee injury during the home series against West Indies.
Harmanpreet, who previously sustained a knee injury during the home series against West Indies last month, missed the last two T20Is. Prior to that, in October 2024, she sustained a neck injury during a match against Pakistan in the Women's T20 World Cup in Dubai.
Meanwhile, Renuka Thakur, lead pacer, took 10 wickets in one-dayers against West Indies, resting for series against Ireland to ease her workload due to a back stress fracture.
