Moving beyond transactional talent placement, the staffing and consulting industry stands out as a driving force behind innovation and sustainable growth in today’s hyper-digital global economy. As organisations focus on meeting the demands of digital disruption, leaders who can merge business insight with individualised thought process are sailing through. One name among such visionary leaders is of VDart Director Parijat Mukherjee, who emerges as a trailblazer, blending her operational expertise with profound human comprehension.
Parijat’s journey is an attestation to bold reinvention and decisive supremacy. She comes armed with over two decades of experience in psychology and human development. Beginning her career in academia and counselling, Parijat’s quest for a more dynamic environment drove her towards the then-nascent global outsourced services industry. From working night shifts in call centers to managing transitions at GE, Genpact and American Express, she navigated her way with humility and a desire to learn.
Joining VDart, a global digital talent management and tech consulting firm, came as a turning point in Parijat’s professional journey. Over the past 13 years, she has been leading the firm’s growth, from a promising startup to becoming a $300M+ enterprise. Today, she leads one of the largest revenue portfolios of the company which is backed by a global team, while endorsing professional management structures, P&L ownership as well as human-centred business models.
Her leadership is defined not just by metrics, but by mindset. She believes that a successful career is about knowing what matters most while prioritizing it. For Parijat, success stems from staying curious, building bridges, and finding joy in every challenge.
In an exclusive conversation with Women Entrepreneurs Review, Parijat reflects on the personal values that shaped her journey, the lessons from global giants that shaped her leadership journey, and how she continues to lead with intention in a world where change is the only constant.
Take us through your life’s journey with an emphasis on the trajectory of your professional career.
My parents’ upbringing shaped how I strive to live, with kindness, courage, and a focus on people over things. I have a background in Psychology and Human Development. I began my career as a Lecturer and Counselor but soon realized that I wanted to be in a more dynamic environment than academia or therapy. So, I joined the global outsourced services industry in its early days, working with companies like GE, Genpact, and American Express. I started at the ground level, working night shifts in a call center for seven years, traveling internationally for on-the-job training, and helping transition processes to India.
As the industry evolved, I leveraged my education and experience to move into training and communications roles. When my family relocated to the US, I took a short hiatus to focus on creating a nurturing environment for our son something my parents had done for me. That’s when I joined VDart.
Tell us about VDart and your role at the firm? What drives client success in the company?
VDart is a rapidly growing digital talent management and technology consulting firm. We connect talent with opportunities in digital and emerging tech, provide product development and embedded software insights, and deliver solutions across industries including automotive, energy, healthcare, and manufacturing.
I’ve been with the company for 13 years, since its early days. Together, we’ve grown VDart into a $300M+ business. My focus on people, P&L management, and implementing structured, professional processes has shaped my contribution to this journey. Our delivery centers are located in Trichy, Vadodara, Chennai (India), as well as in Malaysia, UAE, Mexico, and Toronto. Today, I lead a global team of 20 professionals and manage one of VDart’s largest and most profitable revenue portfolios. I’m proud of our accomplishments and am grateful to be part of this remarkable growth story.
What key challenges do you encounter in your role at VDart. How do you tackle these?
The challenges our company faces are similar to those encountered by many others: a rapidly shifting macroeconomic environment, increasingly fast technological disruption cycles, and human development processes that were originally designed for a slower, more stable world.
At VDart, my primary responsibility is to cultivate young leaders who deeply understand the business and can contribute meaningfully to our clients, our company’s growth goals, and their own professional journeys. I don’t see this as a challenge—it’s energizing. As I always say, find a way to enjoy what you do, not the other way around.
What key milestones have shaped your journey? And as a business leader, what’s your success mantra?
Early in my career, I explored a variety of roles. My time at GE was instrumental in this learning journey, as its structured quality and professional management processes provided a strong foundation in process design principles that I’ve applied in every role since.
Build your career around the life you want, not the other way around because no one can truly have it all. Decide what matters most early on, and have the courage and self-awareness to stand by that choice
At American Express, I experienced what a truly inclusive, compassionate, and thoughtfully designed employer culture looks like. Genpact offered me a front-row seat to the evolution of one of India’s most prominent home-grown, professionally managed KPO organizations.
Finally, at VDart, I was able to integrate all my past experiences with my entrepreneurial drive, contributing meaningfully to a remarkable 1000 percent growth story over 13 years. I learned from my father that the key to success in any area of life is to be kind. Be smart, educated, and driven enough to find solutions where everyone wins, your clients, your employees, and you. Win-win-win outcomes do exist, and if you're skilled enough, you can build a career around making them happen.
How do you foresee the global IT services landscape evolving? Which industry trends will create significant impact going forward?
Generative AI is poised to transform the white-collar industry much like the Industrial Revolution reshaped blue-collar work. It is already fundamentally altering the cost structures of many industries and services. As these shifts continue, supply chains and business models will need to adapt. Success will depend on staying agile and responsive, guiding clients through this period of profound change.
