J&K Women SHGs Forge Global Business Links at SKICC
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Wednesday, 1 July 2026
Underlining the increasing business potential of female-owned businesses, the Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) sponsored by the Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) exhibited a wide range of products created by them at the J&K International Buyers-Sellers Meet.
The meet, arranged by the Jammu & Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO) at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar (SKICC) in Srinagar, provided the platform to these female entrepreneurs to interact with the buyers both from within the country and abroad.
Organized with an intention to improve direct links with markets, this event was organized under the Know Your Artisan program, whereby the SHGs were provided with an opportunity to interact directly with national and international buyers. As a result of eliminating the need for mediators, this program made it possible for the women entrepreneurs to enter into business partnerships.
Key Highlights:
- JKRLM SHGs connect with national and global buyers at JKTPO meet
- Women-led SHGs showcase J&K products, boosting market and export opportunities
- JKRLM strengthens women entrepreneurs through branding, market access, and enterprise support
Emphasizing the power of locally made and value added products, these SHGs showcased a carefully selected list of products showcasing the best of agricultural and craft culture of Jammu & Kashmir state. The list included Pampore Saffron, RS Pura Basmati Rice, Udhampur Kalari, Kupwara Walnuts, Doda Essential Oils, Chir Pine Needle Woodwork from Rajouri, Handlooms, Handicrafts, and many more rural products having good potential in the market.
With the aim of highlighting the richness of rural craftsmanship, the program brings forth women artisans who have the ability and vision to turn their traditional skills into marketable products and interact with foreign buyers.
Dr. Shubhra Sharma, Mission Director JKRLM said that the participation of a huge number of women is indicative of increasing reach, impact, and revenue of women entrepreneurs in rural areas of Jammu & Kashmir.
Highlighting the dedication of the company to foster women with power and autonomy over their businesses, she reiterated that JKRLM will further build up an entrepreneurship ecosystem with focus on capacity building, brand positioning, market integration, and enterprise promotion. The strategy is aimed at empowering rural women to grow their ventures and make them more sustainable and profitable for longer-run. This will build confidence and financial stability within women artisans.
"Our Self Help Groups are transforming traditional skills into quality, market-ready products with strong national and global potential. Such platforms enable women entrepreneurs to connect directly with buyers, expand their businesses and secure better incomes," Dr. Shubhra added.
The Know Your Artisan scheme is a joint initiative of the government and society, primarily driven by the Department of Handicrafts and Handlooms in places like Jammu & Kashmir. The initiative is aimed at bringing the focus on artisanal experts, preserving heritage crafts, and connecting artisans from the countryside with modern consumers.
