Capri Sports Foundation Launches 'The Sports Women' to Empower Indian Female Athletes

By: WE staff | Monday, 4 August 2025

  • Indian women's sport has revolutionarily altered the sporting landscape of the nation.
  • Benchmark tournaments like the Women's Premier League (WPL) in the previous three seasons have increased visibility and demand.
  • Indian women athletes continue to make historic records on the global platform.

Indian women's sports have brought about a revolutionary shift in the country's overall sports landscape. From the rising success of the Women's Premier League (WPL) within three years to the recent wow shows by Indian women sportswomen, all of these testify to their tenacity and toughness—in spite of the continuous setbacks of meager resources, infrastructural shortcomings, and social resistance.

Such iconic landmarks as Indian women ruling the global chess scene and the national women's hockey team making a successful debut are further signs of the unbreakable dominance of women sportswomen.

To speed up this momentum and highlight these motivational journeys, Capri Sports Foundation has introduced The Sports Women (TSW)—a sole endeavor to reimagine how women in sports are viewed, enabled, and celebrated, while working to establish the ecosystem they deserve.

Capri Sports Foundation is working towards a future-proof, inclusive, and sustainable sporting ecosystem through collaboration with corporates, NGOs, brands, and policymakers. Its impact framework incorporates grassroots outreach, community, performance growth, strategic storytelling, access to opportunities, and breaking generational barriers.

The introduction of TSW Huddle on August 6 is the first big milestone of the initiative. This carefully curated assembly of athletes, brands, investors, and changemakers will highlight learning’s from India's first study on women's sports business, commissioned in collaboration with KPMG, and dive into how impactful investment can transform the sector.

Established on the foundations of Storytelling, Research, and Community, The Sports Women seeks not just to discover hidden stories but also to build tangible avenues for new opportunities—networking athletes, fans, brands, leaders, and policymakers in a strong ecosystem.

Capri Sports' flagship CSR program, Beyond the Scorecard, has already funded over 11 impactful initiatives that have benefited over 10,000 underprivileged girls, youth, and vulnerable communities in India. These programs have provided education, nutrition, and leadership training—empowering women athletes both on and off the court.

As WPL franchise UP Warriorz and women's football club Warriorz FC owner, Capri Sports has been an ardent champion of gender balance in sports through innovative campaigns—ranging from street paintings and menstrual health literacy drives to motivational comic books and eco-friendly school stationery for tribal kids.

Jinisha Sharma, Director at Capri Sports, stated:

"Our women athletes have consistently delivered, too often without the support they actually deserve. At Capri Sports, our engagement provides us a rich appreciation for both their immense potential and the systemic fault lines that undermine progress. The Sports Women is our response—by creating platforms, creating new opportunities, and coming together to forge the future women's sports deserve."
