  • Gujarat Giants clinch a nail-biting 3-run victory
  • Sophie Devine shines again in a tense final over
  • Giants jump to second, boost playoff chances

Gujarat Giants edged past Delhi Capitals by three runs in a thrilling contest, clinching a crucial victory that lifted them to second place on the points table and strengthened their push toward the knockouts. In a feel-easy competition for Delhi, Sophie Devine once again held her nerve under pressure, defending eight runs in the final over to seal the game.

Batting first, Gujarat posted a competitive 174 for 9, built around a calm and calculated fifty from Beth Mooney and a momentum-shifting cameo by Anushka Sharma. Early wickets had put the Giants on the back foot, but Anushka counter-attacked with confidence, finding gaps with ease to restore control. Her dismissal for 39 halted the surge, yet Beth ensured stability through the middle overs. After a measured start, she found fluency against the change bowlers and brought up her maiden WPL fifty before falling in the death overs.

Gujarat stumbled late, losing wickets in quick succession as Shree Charani spearheaded Delhi’s fightback with a four-wicket haul. Just when the innings collapsed, Tanuja Kanwar’s brisk 21 off 11 balls provided a decisive late boost, including a final-over assault that pushed the total to a defendable mark.

Delhi’s chase began promisingly, but disciplined bowling from Tanuja and Ash Gardner slowed the momentum. Sophie and Ash then struck in tandem, triggering a collapse that left Delhi reeling at 100 for 6. A stunning counter-attack from Niki Prasad and Sneh Rana nearly turned the game on its head, but Devine returned in the final over to dismiss both batters, calmly steering Gujarat to a dramatic and hard-earned win.
