Vedanta Expands Initiatives to Support Girls In India

- Vedanta Limited reiterated its commitment to empowering girls through education, healthcare, and skill development
- In FY26, the company touched more than five lakh girls in its operational regions in India
Vedanta Limited is a diversified company with business focus in natural materials, energy and technology, and continues to make investments in initiatives supporting girls through education, healthcare and skills development.
By FY26, Vedanta’s programs benefiting women will have positively impacted a minimum of five lakh (500,000) girls throughout Vedanta's operations within India.
The women's programs utilize a lifecycle approach to development and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals’ 4th, 5th and 3rd goals of providing high quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5) and good health and well-being (SDG 3).
These programs support girls from early childhood through adolescence, starting with and continuing into higher education for income potential/Livelihood, with emphases on long-term success for families and communities.
Early interventions come through the Nand Ghar program, which will target over two lakh (200,000) girls by, developing 11,000+ upgraded anganwadi centres over a span of 17 states.
The anganwadi centres are connected with early education, nutrition, health care services, and community engagement projects to help ensure strong foundational learning and improved health outcomes for the girls; and at the same time, providing assistance to mothers and caregivers.
Vedanta offers several educational programs to support higher education and prepare youth for careers. Hindustan Zinc's Unchi Udaan and BALCO Connect in Chhattisgarh are two educational programs that help students prepare for Engineering schools and competitive examinations.
In addition to sponsoring youth's higher education and career readiness, Vedanta provides opportunities to lead healthy lives through participation in Sports and Skills Development Programs.
The Girls Football Academy at Hindustan Zinc and the Sesa Football Academy in Goa are two examples of sports programs for females, where the senior women's team qualified for the Indian Women's League in 2026.
During National Girl Child Day and International Education Day, schools located near Vedanta's operations hosted events that included female achievers and discussions about Education, Leadership, and Goal Setting. These initiatives reflect Vedanta's dedication to assisting Girls at all stages of Development.
