TATA WPL 2026: Gujarat Giants Beat UP Warriorz by 45 Runs

  • Sophie Devine’s unbeaten fifty anchored Gujarat’s innings
  • Gujarat Giants snapped a three-match losing streak
  • Gujarat Girls jumped to second in the points table

Gujarat Giants snapped their three-match losing streak with a commanding 45-run victory over UP Warriorz, tightening the race for playoff spots and moving up to second on the points table. GG posted a competitive 153 for 8, built around a resilient unbeaten half-century from Sophie Devine.

Sophie endured a slow start as UP Warriorz’s disciplined bowling squeezed runs through the middle overs. Despite the pressure, she anchored the innings, accelerating sharply at the death to finish with 50 not out off 42 balls. Beth Mooney provided early stability, but Gujarat struggled to shift gears after the powerplay, managing only modest returns between overs seven and sixteen. Kranti Gaud and Sophie Ecclestone were particularly effective, picking up two wickets each and forcing dot balls in bulk.

Later, Sophie punished a costly final over to add crucial runs, pushing the total beyond UP Warriorz’s reach. That late momentum carried into Gujarat’s bowling effort, where early breakthroughs set the tone. Rajeshwari Gayakwad led the attack with three wickets, while Devine and Renuka Singh chipped in to dismantle the Warriorz batting line-up.

UP Warriorz never fully recovered from early setbacks. While Phoebe Litchfield showed intent with a brisk knock and Chloe Tryon offered some resistance late, wickets fell steadily on the slow surface. Several batters struggled to force the pace, and a series of soft dismissals compounded their troubles. Bowled out for 108, UP Warriorz now face a must-win situation in their remaining fixtures, while Gujarat Giants gain vital momentum at a crucial stage of the tournament.
