Sunetra Pawar Elected National President of NCP in Mumbai

On February 26, 2026, Sunetra Pawar was elected unanimously to become the NCP's (Nationalist Congress Party) National President by the NCP's National Executive Committee.

Sunil Tatkare, who previously served as the Maharashtra State President, supported Praful Patel's nomination of Sunetra to serve as National President, and they voted to elect her unanimously.

Sunetra's election comes after the untimely passing of her husband, Ajit Pawar, who was the previous NCP National President, on January 26, 2026.

By this unanimous decision, both the State and National Executive Committees officially transferred the office of NCP National President to Sunetra on February 26, 2026.

On January 31, 2026, she became the first woman to serve as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Prior to becoming Deputy Chief Minister, she had been previously elected to serve as the NCP Legislative Party Leader and, as the new NCP National President now holds several Cabinet positions in the Maharashtra Cabinet including: Deputy Chief Minister; Excise, Youth Welfare, and Minority Development.
