India Clinches Sixth SAFF Title, Earns National Praise

India’s win in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 received a congratulatory notes, sent by the nation’s top leadership, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The Indian women’s football team finally clinched the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 title after they beat the defending champions Bangladesh 3-1 in the final match at Madgaon, Goa. Through this success, India lifted the trophy for a record sixth time, and it also keeps it even more solid as the tournament’s most accomplished side, in the history.
President Droupadi Murmu commended the team’s performance throughout the competition, stating that the players demonstrated “exceptional skill, determination and teamwork” during the tournament. In her message, the President noted that the achievement highlights the growing standards of women’s football in the country.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan called the win a major landmark for Indian football, he said it’s a “remarkable achievement” that shows the growing strength of women’s football in India. He further added that bagging a record-extending sixth title is a proud moment for the nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian Women’s Football Team for its consistent performance during the tournament. In a social media post he said the team “played excellently throughout the tournament” and added that the victory would encourage more youngsters to take up football in the future. He also conveyed his best wishes to the players for their upcoming competitions.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the effort behind the achievement, saying that the success reflected the players’ “tireless hard work, unwavering dedication and exceptional team spirit.” He further mentioned that the accomplishment will serve as an example for aspiring athletes, who want to excel in competitive sports.
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated the team for lifting the SAFF Championship trophy, calling it a proud moment for Indian football and kind of a proof of the progress that is being made in the sport.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta too praised the squad’s performance, saying the players showed “remarkable determination, skill and teamwork” through out the whole tournament. She also mentioned that the win highlights the ongoing progress of Indian football and the growing involvement of women in high level competitive sports.
The SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 victory then becomes another big achievement in India’s football record, it also strengthens the team’s dominance in South Asian women’s football, by bringing home a sixth continental title.
