Shivangi Sonowal from Dangari village in Tinsukia district has become the first Assamese woman to graduate as a Fire Engineer from the National Fire Service College (NFSC), Nagpur. Her accomplishment marks a milestone not only for her family members and people in general but also for women who are planning to pursue their careers in specific professional and technically inclined courses.
Daughter of Jitul Sonowal and Banti Handique Sonowal, Shivangi Sonowal has recently completed her BTech course in Fire Engineering at NFSC, one of the best colleges in India under the Ministry of Home Affairs in terms of both academics and physical training.
The Fire Engineering program offered by NFSC receives applications from all over the country, but only 60 candidates get selected every year. There are few women candidates enrolled in the course; on average, only three to four female candidates get selected every year.
Key Highlights:
- First Assamese woman to earn a BTech in Fire Engineering from NFSC.
- Secured admission after clearing JEE Main and fitness tests.
- Earned campus placement before graduation from the prestigious institution.
As per reports, Shivangi bagged a seat in 2022 after succeeding in JEE Main entrance exam and securing a place amongst nearly 800 applicants vying for the prestigious course. Besides excellent academic records, one must be capable of meeting stringent physical fitness standards since the program is directly related to the fire, rescue, and safety services.
Through four years, she received intensive education in academics as well as physical endurance training which prepared her to face the rigorous requirements of the fire and safety profession. This was finally confirmed when she earned recognition as Fire Engineer during the convocation ceremony that took place on May 29.
Furthermore, as part of her achievements, Shivangi managed to get placement in a company that operates in gas-based projects at the campus placement process held towards end of her last semester, marking yet another indication of increasing scope in the fire and safety field.
She has made the entire Dangari region proud. Local community members, organizations, and friends have lauded her success, considering it a source of motivation for students, especially females who want to opt for unconventional and newly developed technological career fields.
