Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has emphasized financial support to young entrepreneurs and the active role of women entrepreneurs in the business in his Vijaya Dashami greetings. He highlighted the initiatives by the state government, Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan, which offers financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh to the educated youth for setting up their own businesses.
Himanta linked to the theme of the festival “new beginning” with women entrepreneurship, economic independence and job creation in a social media post on Wednesday. He noted that the youth women are actively participating in the process of self-reliant Assam by establishing businesses as well as employment opportunities. He indicated that female youths from across Assam are also coming forward to establish businesses and creating employment opportunities.
The Press Trust of India (PTI) quoted Himanta as saying Vijaya Dashami was a celebration of Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura and the day to start new ventures with courage and confidence.
“On Vijayadashami we celebrate the victory of Maa Durga over Mahishasura, the victory of good over evil and the victory of courage over doubt. It is also a day of new beginnings when we take up new endeavours with the blessings of the Mother (Dharani) itself,” he added.

Himanta underlined the state government's initiative 'Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan', which aims to empower educated youth to start their own businesses. PTI reports that the beneficiaries under the scheme can receive financial assistance between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
The support is split into two elements: one is a grant and the other is an interest free loan. The goal of the program is to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the first steps toward owning a business and finding work that is independent.
Having access to the capital can be a significant milestone in the economic empowerment of women looking to start their own business. Help for business people who want to start a business can be provided in the form of financial aid, to support their ideas and get them started, and to help them work towards a sustainable business.
Women from Assam are showing interest to start up their own business; Himanta said that it was due to this reason that young women have been attracted to the entrepreneurship. He underlined the need to promote them to become job-creators instead of job-seekers.
“This is the spirit of an Atmanirbhar Assam which is a state where a budding young woman with a good idea need not wait for permission or capital to build her future,” he added.
With this statement he brought women-led enterprises into the mainstream of employment creation and economic self-reliance. Facilitating the rights of women to be entrepreneurs can provide opportunities for women entrepreneurs and at the same time provide employment to others as a result of these women entrepreneurs.
The message also highlighted the importance of financial access for the potential entrepreneurs to have access to business opportunities. Funding can be a critical foundation for women entering the business world and building and maintaining an enterprise is critical to continued growth.
Vijaya Dashami is the day of Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura and it is also the day of victory of Good over evil. The festival also symbolizes the start of a new beginning and is seen as a favorable time for new ventures.
The festival celebrated Goddess Durga in her various forms and the need to celebrate could be done by supporting women who are aspiring to create their own businesses, Himanta said in a statement, adding that the festival has been celebrated for nine days.
Concluding his message, he said, “Subho Bijoya. May Maa Durga bless Assam's daughters with victory in every endeavour. Jai Maa Durga.”
By linking the festival’s message of courage and new beginnings with entrepreneurship, Himanta highlighted the importance of enabling young people, particularly women, to pursue business opportunities. His message placed women’s economic participation, financial independence and enterprise creation at the centre of his call for a self-reliant Assam.
