Ex WC Anagha D Joins Delhi Capitals as Assistant Coach

Ahead of the 2026 season of the Women's Premier League (WPL), a former Indian cricketer named Anagha Deshpande has joined Delhi Capitals (DC), which is a three-time runner-up team in WPL events, as an assistant coach. It is expected that she would be dealing with fielding and batting in her coaching role at Delhi Capitals.

Confirming her selection, Anagha said that it has been decided recently that she would be a part of this setup, calling it an “important professional opportunity.”

She said that she is eagerly waiting for the experience, gaining from which would be adding to the effort of winning the title of WPL after three successive seasons of near victories.

In the Delhi Capitals, Anagha will be working under head coach Jonathan Batty. This is after Lisa Keightley left her position to take on the head coach role for the Mumbai Indians, while Milap Mewada left to coach Goa's men's team.

She has played for the Indian side in 23 ODIs and eight T20Is between 2008 and 2014 and scored a total of 483 runs. As a wicket-keeper, she has 16 catches and 21 stumpings to her credit. She has played for different domestic sides such as Maharashtra, Railways, Gujarat, and Puducherry.

Since she retired from player engagement, Anagha has had significant success as a coach for Uttarakhand. She guided the U-19 women’s team of Uttarakhand to win one-day trophies in both 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, besides leading the U-23 team to direct entry into the knockout stages for both T20 and one-day competitions in 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.

Teams mentored and coached by her have reached their first finals in senior women's matches for T20 and one-day versions of cricket in the 2023/24 season.

Players like Nandini Kashyap, Raghvi Bist, and Prema Rawat have credited their coach Anagha for their progress and have moved on to perform for WPL and India-A side.

Meanwhile, former India captain Anju Jain is set to join the Delhi Capitals as the batting coach. She has played eight Tests and 65 ODIs for the Indian national team between 1993 and 2005, scoring 2,170 international runs. She has also played as a wicket-keeper, taking 15 catches and eight stumpings in Tests, and 30 catches and 51 stumpings in ODIs.

She has been associated with UP Warriorz as an assistant coach in the first two seasons of WPL. She has also been involved with coaching with Indian Women's Team.

She has been the chairman of the selection committee for the Women's selection. Apart from that, she has also been associated with various state and international teams such as the Bangladesh Women's Team and Odisha, Vidarbha, Assam, Tripura, and Baroda. She has also been associated with FairBreak Global Invitational as the head coach of the Tornadoes.
