As 2025 comes to a close, we look back at women’s achievements throughout the year. In this article, we talk about five times when Indian sportswomen won big and made India proud. From the Blue Tigresses’ WC win to Indian women boxers’ rousing performance at the World Boxing Cup Finals, read all about their moment of glory.
In 2025, Indian sportswomen didn’t just win medals; they redesigned the nation’s sporting narrative. What started as a gradual rise in women’s participation has surged into a nationwide movement, with girls and women entering professional sports in record numbers. Across academies, federations, and community programs, India witnessed a significant jump in female representation, especially in disciplines that once saw minimal participation in combat sports, motorsport, shooting, and team sports like football and ice hockey. The shift reflects a new confidence: women are no longer waiting for opportunities; they are creating them.
This spirit of breakthrough defined 2025. Harmanpreet Kaur scripted history by leading India to a monumental cricket triumph. Rising star Divyanshi Bhowmick delivered a landmark international win in table tennis, reminding the world of India’s emerging bench strength. In martial arts, Namrata Batra achieved a rare global medal in wushu, while the Indian women’s ice hockey team captured its first-ever international podium finish, an extraordinary moment for a sport long overshadowed in the country. These victories, along with achievements in athletics, weightlifting, and kho-kho, proved that Indian women are not just participating; they are dominating.
The Women Entrepreneurs Review Magazine highlights 5 such moments in sports where Women Athletes made India Proud.
Women in Blue Create History; Win Women's WC by Defeating SA
India lifted the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a packed Navi Mumbai stadium. Batting first, India posted a strong 299, thanks to Shafali Verma’s 87-run knock. The turning point came when Deepti Sharma dismantled South Africa’s chase, taking a stunning 5/39, triggering a collapse from 209/5 to 246 all out. Shafali was named Player of the Match, while Deepti earned Player of the Tournament. With prize money of ₹37.3 crore announced, the win marked a watershed moment for women’s cricket, elevating visibility, investment, and national pride.
India Wins First Women's T20 Blind Cricket World Cup
India created history by winning the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind, defeating Nepal by seven wickets in Sri Lanka. Led by captain Deepika TC, the team chased 114 with confidence, powered by an exceptional 44 off 27 balls from Phula Saren, a young talent from rural Odisha. The victory was deeply emotional, especially as many players come from underprivileged backgrounds and discovered cricket through blind schools and grassroots programs. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister presented the trophy, and sponsors announced ₹1 lakh for each player, marking a major milestone for inclusivity and recognition in women’s cricket.
19-Year-Old Divya Deshmukh Stuns Koneru Humpy to Win FIDE Women's World Cup
At just 19, Divya Deshmukh shocked the chess world by defeating veteran champion Koneru Humpy to win the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025. After tight classical draws, Divya displayed remarkable composure in the rapid tiebreaks, capitalizing on Humpy’s late endgame errors to clinch victory. Her win not only earned her the World Cup crown but also secured her final Grandmaster norm, making her India’s fourth woman Grandmaster. Throughout the tournament, Divya toppled top seeds with fearless play, precise preparation, and unwavering calm, positioning herself as a powerful new force in global chess and a symbol of India’s rising youth talent.
Women Lead India to Historic Nine-Gold Sweep in World Boxing Cup
India delivered its greatest-ever boxing performance at the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025, sweeping nine gold medals, seven of them won by women. Stars like Nikhat Zareen, Jaismine Lamboria, and Parveen Hooda dominated Olympic-class events with decisive wins, backed by golds from Minakshi, Preeti, Arundhati Choudhary, and Nupur Sheoran. With all 20 Indian boxers reaching the podium, India topped the medal table ahead of global giants. The tournament showcased India’s growing depth, emotional resilience, and readiness for the 2028 Olympics, with athletes calling the victory one of the most meaningful moments of their careers.
Krishna Jayasankar becomes the First Indian Woman to cross the 16m Mark in Indoor shot put
Krishna Jayasankar made history at the 2025 Mountain West Indoor Championships by becoming the first Indian woman to cross 16 metres in indoor shotput, recording 16.03m. The Chennai-born 22-year-old shattered the previous national indoor record of 15.54m and secured a bronze medal in a high-profile field. Her final-round throw pushed her from fourth to a podium finish, earning her qualification for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Krishna’s rise reflects India’s growing presence in elite indoor athletics, especially as distance runner Gulveer Singh also broke the 13-minute barrier in the 5000m the same week, a major milestone for Indian indoor sports.
