The TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) returns in 2026 with its most competitive and anticipated season to date. Slated to be hosted between 9 January 2026 and 5 February 2026, the fourth edition of the league follows a blockbuster mega auction that has completely reshaped the tournament landscape.

This season adopts a caravan model with matches split across only two venues: DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, hosting the opening leg, and BCA Stadium in Vadodara, which will host the final stages and the grand finale.

With five franchises, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and UP Warriorz, ready to battle across a tight window before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, WPL 2026 promises high-intensity cricket, star-studded clashes, and a fresh wave of domestic talent.

Before stepping into the new season, notably the Mumbai Indians clinched the TATA WPL 2025 title, further asserting their dominance as the most consistent side in the league. However, with the mega reshuffle of 2026, every team now enters with new combinations.

As the women’s game in India enjoys unprecedented attention, especially after India’s strong run in the 2025 Women’s World Cup, WPL 2026 arrives with momentum, ambition, and a renewed push to expand the league.

TATA WPL 2026 Mega Auction

Held on 27 November 2025 at the JW Marriott Hotel, Aerocity, New Delhi, the TATA WPL 2026 Mega Auction delivered historic highs, strategic surprises, and some of the boldest moves seen so far in women’s domestic leagues. The introduction of the Right-to-Match (RTM) card for the first time allowed franchises to reclaim former players by matching final bids, an innovation that reshaped auction dynamics.

Deepti Sharma becomes the most expensive player of WPL 2026, secured by UP Warriorz via RTM for Rs 3.20 crore, making her the costliest Indian star of the season. The most expensive overseas pick was Amelia Kerr, claimed by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 3 crore. Among uncapped players, Anushka Sharma, bought by Gujarat Giants for Rs 45 lakh, stood out as a breakout name. The auction also delivered shocks as celebrated internationals such as Alyssa Healy and Heather Knight went unsold, highlighting the evolving preferences of franchises.
