  • Smriti Mandhana requires 28 runs to achieve 10,000 international runs
  • This will be her second Indian woman to attain this achievement
  • Mithali Raj is currently the only female from India who has achieved 10,000 runs

Smriti Mandhana of India is an international vice-captain and she is currently just 28 runs short of reaching 10,000 career international runs in her cricket career. If she successfully reaches this milestone, she will be only the second Indian woman to accomplish this feat.

Smriti will be competing in the third T20I match of a five match series versus Sri Lanka on Friday, which will be played in Thiruvananthapuram. She has a career total of 9,972 international runs.

So far, she has played 279 international matches and needs only 28 more to reach 10,000 international runs. The only other female player in history to have reached this milestone before Smriti was Mithali Raj, who finished her career with 10,868 international runs from 333 International matches.

If Smriti is able to reach the 10,000 career runs milestone in international cricket then she would become the fourth female cricketer in history to achieve this remarkable milestone; other than Mithali Raj, the only other female cricketers who have passed this milestone are Suzie Bates (10,652 international runs) and Charlotte Edwards (10,273 international runs).

The five-match T20I series between India and New Zealand is currently led by the Men in Blue 2-0 after winning the first two matches. On Tuesday, in the second T20I, India registered a seven-wicket win while chasing 129.

Shafali Verma also scored an unbeaten 69 off 34 balls with 11 fours and one six. Smriti scored 14 before getting out, and Jemimah scored 26 off 15 deliveries. India got the target within 11.5 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur got out after hitting the winning run.

Earlier, Sri Lanka scored 128/9 in 20 overs. Chamari Athapaththu remained unbeaten on 31, while Harshitha Maddavi was left with 33.

For India, Vaishnavi Sharma, Shree Charani, and others like Kranti Gaud, Sneh Rana, along with Amanjot Kaur, contributed to vital run outs, as India continued to be in command through their disciplined bowling performance.
