Emerge Legal Appoints Kaaba Khan to Lead Media & IP Practice
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Thursday, 27 August 2026
Emerge Legal has appointed Kaaba Khan to lead its Media and Entertainment, Intellectual Property and Commercial practice from the firm’s Mumbai office. The appointment marks a strategic move to strengthen the firm’s presence across India’s expanding media, entertainment and intellectual property sectors.
Key Highlights:
- Emerge Legal appoints Kaaba Khan to lead its Mumbai practice
- Khan expands media and IP expertise across content, rights and commercial matters
- The firm strengthens cross-border capabilities for Indian rights holders and content businesses
Kaaba will lead the Mumbai team on a broad range of matters, including content production and acquisition, rights licensing and distribution, talent and endorsement arrangements, and commercial contracting. Her practice will also cover trademark and copyright protection and enforcement, cross-border transactions involving Indian rights holders and content, and wider commercial and business law matters.
The appointment comes as the media and entertainment industry increasingly faces complex legal requirements spanning intellectual property, commercial agreements, licensing, data, and regulatory considerations. By bringing these areas together, Emerge Legal aims to offer clients a more integrated approach to transactions and disputes.
Kaaba joins Emerge Legal from GK Legal, where she served as a Partner and advised clients on media and entertainment, intellectual property, commercial and business law matters, in addition to real estate and land-related matters. Earlier in her career, she worked at Trilegal, where she handled capital markets transactions, including initial public offerings and debt issuances.
A graduate of New Law College, Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Kaaba brings experience across media, entertainment, IP and commercial law. Her background in negotiations and representation is expected to support Emerge Legal’s work on complex rights and business arrangements.
Commenting on her appointment, Kaaba highlighted the importance of connecting specialised intellectual property advice with the corporate and regulatory issues that often arise alongside it.
“Emerge Legal is building at a pace I wanted to be a part of. Media and intellectual property mandates are usually run in isolation from the corporate and regulatory work sitting behind them, which isn't how clients actually experience their problems. Having specialized in negotiations and representation, I know that a single rights deal now carries a data question, a licensing issue, and often a potential dispute, all within the same engagement. My practice acts as a bridge between business law and IP law, and this platform lets me run those elements together seamlessly. Mumbai is the right place to build that integrated practice, and I intend to build it properly.”
Kaaba’s appointment reflects the growing demand for specialised legal expertise as India’s digital content, entertainment and creative industries expand. Her practice is positioned to support businesses and rights holders navigating licensing, distribution, intellectual property protection and cross-border commercial transactions.
For Emerge Legal, the move also strengthens its ability to provide integrated legal solutions across corporate, commercial, regulatory and IP matters, while establishing a stronger foothold in Mumbai, a major centre for India’s film, television and digital content industries.
