Bihar CM Launches 3 Women-Focused Schemes in Patna

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has launched three major women-focused initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s safety, higher education, research and entrepreneurship across the state. The program held at Gyan Bhavan, Patna, ahead of Rakshabandhan with special emphasis on creating increased opportunities for women and enhancing their economic independence.

The schemes involve the introduction of 4,700 bicycles for Police Didi (Abhya Brigade), the Bihar Ki Beti Startup Challenge Yojana and the Chief Minister Balika PhD Fellowship. The programs work together to address some important aspects of women's empowerment like safety, education, innovation, entrepreneurship and livelihood generation.

At the event, women members of the Abhaya Brigade took the opportunity to tie rakhis around Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. The two wheelers, which have just been launched, are going to enhance patrolling efforts and help policewomen to handle safety issues better, especially at schools and colleges.

Samrat shared that Bihar has approximately 40,000 women cops in the state, adding it's the highest in the country. The state government was working to reinforce the policing systems, he added, to ensure timely support to women and girls and provide them with safer environment.

The Chief Minister Balika PhD Fellowship is meant to inspire women to do higher study and research. The scheme will provide a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 for four years to about 1,000 female research scholars. Samrat reiterated the need to provide advanced academic opportunities to the girls of Bihar, as a priority for the government.

The third scheme is Bihar Ki Beti Startup Challenge Yojana which aims to encourage women entrepreneurship and self-employment and grass root innovation. Under the program, the 2,100 women entrepreneurs that have been selected will be provided seed funding of ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh. The financial assistance will be used to support women in starting their own businesses and to boost their involvement in the development of the state's economy through new and creative ideas.

Samrat spoke at the event and appealed to the women of Bihar to use their talent and capabilities to help the state develop. He added that the destiny of Bihar can be changed with the use of talent and capability of its women and they must become partners in the growth of a prosperous Bihar.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that the development of better opportunities for daughters is not only Government responsibility; it is a responsibility of the society. “The new measures would provide an avenue for women to be in safety, higher education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship,” he said.

Samrat also reminded that Jeevika Didis earns an income of ₹1.36 lakh crore to Bihar economy. He said 43 lakh Jeevika Didis became Lakhpati Didis and the government has targeted to convert another one crore women to Lakhpati Didi in the coming years.

The state also aims to increase the employment of women in the Jeevika, dairy, milk production, animal husbandry, allied activities and livelihoods with the objective of reaching one crore women in this sector.

Looking to women safety, Samrat announced that the time taken in emergency response service 112 had been cut down to less than 10 minutes and new arrangements were being made to further reduce the time to five to seven minutes.

Also, he mentioned that 50% reservation for women in panchayat and urban local body elections has led to representation of women at 59% in the state. The Chief Minister repeated that the safety, dignity, education and self-reliance of women is an important priority for the State of Bihar.
