Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana’, which is a new initiative to offer financial aid of Rs 2500 to eligible women candidates every month via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

As part of the launch ceremony, the Chief Minister distributed letters of approval and verification to the female beneficiaries in thousands. Also, the process of DBT was initiated officially.

Speaking to women on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Rekha Gupta informed that Delhi Lakshmi Yojana was now being extended to women in the national capital.

CM Rekha said, "This Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, which has reached the doorsteps of all my sisters across Delhi today -- for this, while expressing my deepest gratitude from the bottom of my heart to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to that mother, and to all of you, I wish you all the very best for your future.”

Key Highlights:

  • Delhi CM Rekha Gupta had launched a scheme called “Delhi Lakshmi Yojana” under which eligible women will be getting ₹2500 per month through DBT.
  • Since the launch of this scheme on August 1, 9.22 lakh ladies have joined this scheme.
  • In the first phase, 2500 women were given the certificate of their approval.

Chief Minister announced that the scheme had witnessed a huge response since its inception few days ago with over nine lakh women enrolling for its benefits.

She added, "We launched this scheme on August 1; since then, 9,22,000 sisters have registered their names under this scheme. Today, under this Rs 2,500 monthly Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, we have officially handed over verification and approval certificates to the first 2,500 sisters, who are the initial beneficiaries to receive the benefits of this scheme.”

According to CM Gupta, empowerment of women was crucial for the overall development of the nation and stated that the development of family and country is related to the development of their womenfolk.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi always emphasises that if we want to take the country forward, we must empower our women and sisters. Until the woman of a household progresses, prospers, and has her challenges resolved, the nation's problems cannot be solved," Delhi CM continued.

The recipients were happy with the financial aid, calling the program as one which would go a long way to make them independent homemakers. They appreciated the move and added that the monthly allowance would help them financially.

One beneficiary expressed her happiness over being included in the scheme and said, "I am very happy. Thank you very much. This has provided me with a huge financial boost before Raksha Bandhan."

An additional recipient viewed the plan as a "symbol of women's freedom" and stated, "August 15 and January 26 have now arrived for homemakers. Until now, only the breadwinners were free; now we are also free. This will provide us with significant financial support."

According to an interview given by BJP MLA Anil Goyal to IANS at the occasion, he said that this was a fulfillment of the pledge taken by the BJP during their election campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections. He further added that the money will be directly deposited into their accounts.
