Bihar Launches 3 Major Schemes for Women's Safety and Growth

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on 26 August 2026 launched three major schemes aimed at strengthening women’s safety and growth across the state. The initiatives include the Police Didi Campaign, the JEEViKA and Lakhpati Didi programme, and measures supporting women’s education and entrepreneurship. Together, the schemes focus on improving safety, financial independence, education and employment opportunities for women.

Under the Police Didi Campaign, female police personnel will be deployed in schools, colleges and other educational institutions to strengthen the safety of girls and women. To support their field duties, the state is providing around 2,700 scooties and more than 2,000 motorcycles to women police personnel.

Bihar currently has around 40,000 women police personnel, CM Samrat said. He also highlighted improvements in the Dial 112 emergency response service, stating that response times have fallen below 10 minutes. The state is targeting a further reduction to between five and seven minutes.

The second initiative focuses on economic empowerment through JEEViKA and the Lakhpati Didi programme. According to the Chief Minister, around 1.81 crore women are associated with JEEViKA, with more than 70 lakh JEEViKA Didis actively engaged in the initiative. Around 43 lakh women have already achieved Lakhpati Didi status by earning at least ₹1 lakh annually.

The Bihar government aims to help another one lakh women achieve Lakhpati Didi status over the next two years. CM Samrat said women's financial independence would contribute to stronger economic conditions for families and communities.

The third set of measures centres on education, entrepreneurship and career opportunities. Under the government’s support programme, 1,000 female PhD students will receive ₹10,000 per month for four years. The Bihar Ki Beti Startup Scheme will provide women entrepreneurs with financial assistance of ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh.

Female students who clear preliminary stages of competitive examinations will also receive incentives ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹1 lakh. The state has additionally set a target of providing employment opportunities to one crore women over the next three years.

CM Samrat said the growing participation of women in panchayats, administration and other areas reflects changing social conditions in Bihar. He added that women’s safety, education and financial self-reliance would remain central to the state’s development agenda.

Separately, the Chief Minister recently announced the Student Support Camp initiative, under which monthly camps will be organised at educational institutions for students to raise complaints and suggestions. Students will also be able to submit grievances through an online portal and Helpline 1100 and track their status.

The latest measures underline Bihar’s focus on combining women’s safety with economic and educational opportunities as part of its broader development agenda.
