
Independence Day: 8 Women-led Companies that are Proud Make in India Initiatives

The Indian Government’s "Make in India" campaign is a symbol of strength and national pride which is a key part of India's economic strategy to boost exports. On the occasion of Independence Day 2024, we bring to you 8 women-led companies that are proud proponents of the ‘Make In India’ initiative.
Women-led companies in India are increasingly taking center stage, driving innovation and fostering economic growth. Indian women are leaving their footprints in every sector, acquiring fruitful results and shattering the barriers in traditionally male-dominated industries by championing local manufacturing and contributing to self-reliance goals.
Indian women entrepreneurs are transforming the business landscape, creating jobs, and setting new standards for quality and sustainability. Their commitment to "Make in India" demonstrates their role in the country's economic future, promoting domestic manufacturing and reducing import dependency across various industries. Influential women entrepreneurs like Kalpana Saroj, Chairperson of Kamani Tubes, and Falguni Nayar, Founder of Nykaa foster inclusive work environments by contributing to the country's industrial growth. Such women leaders in technology, healthcare, fashion, and consumer goods, promote the initiative to inculcate innovation, quality, and self-sufficiency.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) reported a significant growth in women-led startups in the top 3 D2C sectors including Personal and Home Care, Food and Beverages, and Fashion is 3644 accounting for 52 per cent of all startups. The report further stated that women-led startups in key D2C sectors have grown over 2700 per cent from 130 in 2017 to 3644 in May 2023, with 33 per cent emerging during COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021.
