Entrepreneurship has been part of Sima’s identity since her teenage years, long before she spent 25 transformative years in Dubai building her career and raising her three children. She grew up across Syria, the United States, and the South of France.

This multicultural upbringing quietly sculpted her aesthetic sensibility. Summers spent wandering around French boutiques with her mother became early lessons in curation: she was the child who needed the hat, necklace, and bag perfectly coordinated.

This instinct for detail, beauty, and personal expression would later become the soul of Boom & Mellow.

Beyond retail, Sima’s life is anchored in wellness, healing, and personal growth elements that deeply influence her calm, intentional approach to business. When she eventually created Boom & Mellow, it wasn’t just a boutique; it was the manifestation of a lifelong passion for accessories, individuality, and thoughtfully curated pieces. Today, her brand stands as one of Dubai’s most beloved multi-brand destinations, and her story echoes the strength, resilience, and vision of women shaping the UAE’s retail future.

Tell us about your professional journey before founding Boom and Mellow. What pivotal moments shaped your entrepreneurial journey?

When I moved to Dubai in 2000, the retail scene was still developing. I co-founded one of the city’s first independent multi-brand boutiques, introducing contemporary labels like Chloé, Juicy Couture, Matthew Williamson, and Seven for All Mankind, which didn’t exist in the region then. Those years taught me timing, intuition, and how Dubai’s women truly shop.

But I felt a calling to create something more personal. The ready-to-wear segment was growing, yet accesso­ries and jewelry were still overlooked. I shifted my fo­cus and, in 2005, founded Boom & Mellow, opening in the Mall of the Emirates the very year it launched.

Introduce us to Boom and Mellow. What inspired you to create the brand, and what core mission drives the company?

Boom & Mellow is a curated boutique in Dubai; a concept store built around accessories, jewellery, bags, beachwear, and meaningful gifts sourced from around the world. Our online store, boomandmellow.com, extends the same experience with online shopping, 3-hour Dubai delivery, and WhatsApp concierge support.

The name reflects our personality: “Boom” for bold, expressive statement pieces, and “Mellow” for soft, timeless beauty. This balance resonates with Dubai’s women, who enjoy variety in both style and price.

Whether it’s premium jewellery, everyday accessories, or thoughtful gifting, Boom & Mellow offers a curated piece for every moment. Since 2005, my mission has been to bring contemporary selections, independent designers, and accessible luxury together.

As the Founder, what responsibilities do you shoulder at Boom & Mellow?

As the Founder of one of Dubai’s long-standing concept stores, my focus has always been curation, discovering new designers, sourcing unique collections, and keeping the Boom & Mellow aesthetic distinct and recognizable. I also lead our brand development and customer experience, ensuring our online store reflects the same warmth as our boutique.

Leadership-wise, I believe in empowering my team. They truly are the heart of the experience, knowing clients by name, understanding their style, and building the long-term relationships that make Boom & Mellow stand apart in Dubai’s retail and gifting landscape.

What major hurdles have you faced while establishing Boom & Mellow, and how did you successfully address them?

Building a retail boutique in Dubai over almost two decades has come with its challenges. The retail landscape changed fast, mall footfall shifted, rental models evolved, and consumer behavior transformed as online shopping grew.

Transitioning Boom & Mellow from a purely brick-and-mortar space into a strong online boutique required real reinvention. Launching 3-hour delivery and offering personalized gifting support helped us stay ahead.

Every location change, digital expansion, and industry shift has ultimately strengthened who we are.

Looking back at your entrepreneurial journey, what key milestones stand out? What is the success mantra that keeps you inspired and focused?

A major milestone for me was proving that Boom & Mellow is truly a destination boutique, not dependent on any one mall. When we moved from the Mall of the Emirates to Jumeirah, our customers continued to seek us out intentionally, which really validated the strength of our brand and community.

Other milestones include our digital transforma­tion and being recognized multiple times by plat­forms like the Grazia Style Awards. Staying relevant for nearly 20 years in a city like Dubai, where trends change fast, is an achievement on its own.

My success mantra has always been: “Stay curious, keep moving, and trust your intuition.”

Which trends will redefine the retail landscape in Dubai?

Retail in Dubai is shifting toward experiences, whether in-store or online. Customers want personalization, speed, and meaningful service, and I believe brands that blend technology with genuine human warmth will define the future.

The rise of curated shopping, thoughtful gifting, and niche concept stores will only grow, because consumers today prefer edited selections over endless options, and that’s always been Boom & Mellow’s strength. With fast delivery, curated collections, and a seamless online experience, we are perfectly positioned for Dubai’s next chapter in retail.
