Vietnam Women's Congress Begins New Five-Year Term

The 14th National Women's Congress for the 2026 - 2031 term opened in Hanoi on June 18, gathering 789 delegates representing women from diverse backgrounds, ethnic groups, religions, professions and social sectors nationwide.
During the event, the Chairman of the National Assembly participated and spoke at the event, which was attended by many current and former members of the Party and State, in addition to representatives from ministries and central agencies.
During the opening of the congress, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) Le Thi Thuy spoke about the remarkable results the Union and women's movements had achieved over the past term. She believes that the success of the results is due to the leadership of the Party and the support of the Government, the National Assembly, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, ministries, sectors, local authorities and domestic and foreign partners.
Thuy says Vietnamese women have maintained their resilience, creativity, intellectual capacity and dedication to the development of the nation. Women's movements have also grown in substance and effectiveness, such as the “Developing Vietnamese Women in the New Era” campaign which has helped to encourage the all-round development of women and the overall development of the country.
The 14th National Women's Congress is a milestone that brings a new era for the development of women's movements and Vietnam's VWU in accordance with Vietnam's vision of building a prosperous, democratic, civilised and happy society, she said.

During the congress, participants will consider the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of Women, the effectiveness of the Central Committee of the VWU, the implementation of the VWU's current statutes and consider amendments to the VWU statutes. The congress will also elect the VWU Central Committee for the term 2026 – 2031.
The congress will also look back at the work of the past term as well as forward to directions, goals and action plans over the next five years.
The VWU will continue to advocate for emulating movements and campaigns throughout the country, including the development of the “Developing Vietnamese Women in the New Era” movement as a key focus, and the study and emulation of President Ho Chi Minh's ideology, moral example and style.
The union has termed three key breakthroughs as the way forward: enhancing the quality of the female workforce to meet the demands of the new era; speeding up digital transformation and revolutionizing operations with an enhanced focus on the grassroots level; and encouraging women entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable wealth creation.
The congress has also established 12 goals, 5 key tasks and 20 action measures. Key priorities are the comprehensive women and families development, economic empowerment of women, women equality, national unity, Party and political system development and women's Union effectiveness in the people-to-people diplomatic efforts.
