Vedanta's Nand Ghar Initiative Boosts Women's Entrepreneurship

Vedanta along with their partner Frontier Markets has launched the Nand Ghar Initiative which provides women from rural areas with greater access to economic opportunities through participation in digitally enabled entrepreneurship.
Women participating in this program will receive training, access to digital tools, and livelihoods related to the market for generational income and generate economic opportunities locally through the delivery of goods and services to their community
The Nand Ghar initiative will assist in enhancing the livelihood opportunities of Nand Ghars by providing women access to digital skills and tools necessary for developing income-generating ventures there are anticipated 1,800 digitally enabled female grocer entrepreneurs across Nand Ghars within Bharatpur District of Rajasthan.
Entrepreneurs that are creating their own source of income by providing essential products or services through their community networks are anticipated to become a part of this project as it develops.
To assist women living in rural areas to use technology and community networks for economic opportunity, this program seeks to bridge the digital divide.
Shashi Arora, Managing Director of Nand Ghar, says that it is the priority of this program to provide women access to the resources and opportunities necessary for participating in their local economy, creating jobs, and establishing a foundation for the growth of their communities through digital enterprise.
Ajaita Shah, Founder & CEO of Frontier Markets, described the collaborative goals of this program as providing women with access to local market sources; using digital solutions for developing sustainable livelihoods; and enabling women through training, using local supply chains, and developing local community networks.
Through a partnership between Nand Ghar and Frontier Markets, the community infrastructure of Nand Ghar and the knowledge of Frontier Markets regarding rural commerce, such as developing women as local distributors, will help increase the economic involvement of women living in rural areas by developing their digital capability, increasing access to markets, and supporting entrepreneurship development.
Through Nand Ghar, the Anil Agarwal Foundation will continue to support the development of rural communities in India with a focus on nutrition, early childhood education, healthcare services, and empowering women throughout India.
