Uttarakhand women have demonstrated their active participation in the 2024 Uttarakhand Lok Sabha elections by casting more votes than men. Voter turnout in Uttarakhand's first round of the Lok Sabha elections has been revised to 55 per cent in each of the five parliamentary constituencies where polling was conducted. However, the votes have been relatively low, as Uttarakhand is placed in 19th position among the 21 states and union territories where elections have been conducted. Compared to the districts in the plains, voter turnout was low specifically in the hills of both the Kumaon and Garhwal regions.
The trend of females casting votes in higher percentages or participating in mass movements for the welfare of society has been increasing for years. In the 2014 and 2019 LS elections, women voters outcasted male demonstrating their voting power. Women's polling percentage was 1.57 per cent more than men's in 2014 whereas, in 2019, the difference was recorded at 4.5 per cent.
In the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, women voters in Tehri cast their votes 3 per cent more than men as they registered around 55.26 per cent while men cast 52.37 per cent. A few regions of Dehradun under Tehri also recorded higher female participants in voting.
The next region where women voters surpassed men is Pauri Garhwal where the seat witnessed 3,79833 female voters whereas male voters were 3,37993. Furthermore in Almora, 348378 women voters cast their votes whereas 3,05516 men voted. So far, 83.37 lakh people have voted in Uttarakhand out of which 40.20 lakh are women.
