Geeta Rao Gupta, the US Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, embarks on an eight-day visit to India with a mission to promote women's empowerment. Her visit will cover key cities, including Gujarat, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, where she will play a crucial role in leading the US delegation to two significant conferences.
The first conference, the G20 Alliance for the Empowerment and Progression of Women’s Economic Representation (G20 EMPOWER), will focus on advancing women's economic representation and progress on the global stage. The second conference, the G20 Ministerial Conference on Women’s Empowerment, hosted by the Government of India, underscores the increasing importance of women's empowerment in international discussions.
Accompanying Geeta Rao Gupta on this impactful journey are distinguished officials from various US departments. The delegation includes Rachel Vogelstein, Special Assistant to the President at the White House Gender Policy Council and Special Advisor to the National Security Council on Gender. Nancy Izzo Jackson, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, Mike Hankey, U.S. Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General Mumbai, and Jamille Bigio, USAID Senior Coordinator for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in the Office of the Administrator, bring in their expertise and commitment to the cause.
The visit is significant, as it demonstrates the US government's dedication to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment on a global scale. Through active participation in these conferences, the US delegation aims to collaborate with international partners and drive positive change for women and girls worldwide.
Geeta Rao Gupta's leadership, along with the expertise of the other delegates, is expected to foster meaningful discussions, innovative ideas, and actionable strategies to uplift women's economic status and promote their rights and opportunities in diverse sectors.
As the US and India join forces to address challenges and opportunities related to women's empowerment, this visit holds the potential to yield tangible outcomes and strengthen bilateral cooperation on gender equality initiatives.
The world eagerly awaits the results of these conferences, hopeful that they will lead to transformative changes and create a brighter future for women, not only in India but also across the globe.
