Nutrient-rich start-up The Func. Lab has raised $1.5 million in seed funding from an exclusive group of strategic investors which includes Nisaba Godrej, Anand Piramal, Abhishek Nayar, Bhakti Modi, Harsh Parekh and Sahil Vora. The fresh investment will help facilitate the next step in the company's growth and development, with an eye on consolidating its footprint in the fast-growing health and wellness industry in India.
Founded in 2025 by celebrity fitness trainer and SOHFIT founder Sohrab Khushrushahi, entrepreneur Sahil Kukreja, and SOHFIT co-founder Daneesh Davar, The Func. Lab creates clean label functional nutrition and protein products that focus on hydration. The company's portfolio includes Salty Electrolytes, Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate, and Plant Protein, catering to consumers seeking transparent, performance-focused nutrition products.
The fresh investment will be used to drive the product innovation process, product expansion, distribution growth, supply chain capacity, quick commerce expansion and direct-to-consumer (D2C) sales and offline stores across India, the startup said.
Key Highlights:
- $1.5M seed funding raised from Nisaba Godrej, Anand Piramal, and other strategic investors
- Funds to drive growth through product expansion, distribution, and omnichannel scaling
- Clean-label nutrition brand focused on hydration and protein products with third-party tested formulations
Sohrab Khushrushahi, co-founder of the company, commented on the funding, saying that the company was always based on the ingredients and not marketing claims in nutrition products. The investment will help The Func, he added. Lab will continue to work on enhancing their products, greater accessibility throughout the country and further develop their brand around trust, transparency and effectiveness.
The Func. Lab is unique with its gums, emulsifiers, anti-caking agents, artificial sweeteners and proprietary blends free formulations, as per its claim. It also highlights the fact that its products are independently third-party tested to ensure the quality of the ingredients and the accuracy of the labelling, aligning with the rising consumer demand for clean label nutrition products.
Since its launch in July 2025, the company has grown into a multi-channel business with its D2C platform, eCommerce marketplaces, quick-commerce platforms and offline retail stores. Its future prospects: The Func. Lab intends to further expand its efforts in the hydration space with new electrolyte and recovery products, and increase the availability of these in thousands of pin codes across India.
Godrej, an investor, said that she is using whey protein and electrolyte products of the company on a regular basis and the commitment of the founding team to create high-quality nutrition products is commendable. India has high growth areas in protein, hydration and preventive wellness, said Anand Piramal, who added that the Func. was a prime example of such preventive wellness products. Lab's focus on consumer taste, quality and transparency of ingredients has it primed for serving the country's ever-expanding health-conscious consumer base.
