Team India clinches Win by defeating Sri Lanka by 82 Runs

Dubai International Cricket Stadium witnessed two record-breaking performances simultaneously on 9 October 2024 during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Team India (IND-W) clinched an exemplary win against Sri Lanka Women (SL-W) with 82 runs. Women in Blue smashed the highest 172/3 in 20 overs and restricted Sri Lanka for 90 runs in 19.5 overs grabbing all the wickets. This is the highest run scored by any team during the Women's WC 2024. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur received the 'Player of the Match' title for her splendid batting performance hitting an unbeaten half-century. Additionally, Arundhati Reddy took 3 wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs showcasing a great bowling performance.
India Women showcased a dominant all-rounder performance with their bat and ball boosting their run rate and securing the 2nd seat in the Points Table of Group A. India won the toss and opted to bat first against Sri Lanka where star batters Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana showcased their brilliance as openers. Shafali scored 43 runs in 40 balls hitting 4 fours whereas Smriti Mandhana smased her half-century in just 38 balls with 4 fours and 1 six at an SR of 131.58 but had to go back due to run-out. Skipper Harmanpreet joined Smriti after the dismissal of Shafali and put up the highest 52 off 27 balls hitting 8 fours and 1 six at a strike rate of 192.59 without losing her wicket. The skipper partnered with Jemimah Rodrigues (16) and Richa Ghosh (6) securing a total of 172/3.
The second innings of the match became intense as the Indian bowlers left no crumbs grabbing all the wickets of team Sri Lanka. Ace-pacers, Renuka Singh Thakur (2), Shreyanka Patil (1), Deepti Sharma (1), Arundhati Reddy (3), and Asha Sobhana (3) secured wickets restricting the team with 90 runs.
