- RCB chase down record 204 to lift second WPL title
- Mandhana-Voll stitched a historic 165-run partnership
- Smriti Mandhana scores 87 in title-winning knock
Royal Challengers Bengaluru scripted a historic finish to the Women’s Premier League by pulling off the highest successful chase in tournament history, overhauling Delhi Capitals’ 203 for 4 to clinch their second WPL title with a six-wicket win in a dramatic final.
Chasing 204, RCB were briefly rocked early, but what followed was a batting masterclass from Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll. Coming together at 9 for 1, the duo dismantled the DC bowling attack with a breathtaking 165-run stand off just 92 deliveries, the biggest partnership for any wicket in WPL history. Smriti led with authority, mixing elegance with power in a commanding 87, while Georgia matched her with a composed yet innovative 79.
Delhi had earlier posted one of the biggest totals ever in a women’s T20 final. Lizelle Lee provided early impetus, Laura Wolvaardt anchored the middle overs, and Jemimah Rodrigues continued her rich vein of form with a fluent half-century. Chinelle Henry’s late assault ensured DC crossed the 200-mark, setting up what seemed a formidable challenge.
RCB’s chase appeared under complete control before a late twist. Georgia’s dismissal, followed quickly by the wickets of Richa Ghosh and Smriti, injected sudden tension into the contest. With momentum swinging and pressure mounting, the final moments tested RCB’s nerves.
Needing eight off four balls, Radha Yadav stepped up calmly, striking consecutive boundaries in the final over to seal victory and silence a stunned DC camp. The win not only handed RCB their second title but also extended Delhi Capitals’ heartbreak, as they fell short in a WPL final for the fourth time.
