  • Delhi Capitals chased 169 with ease, winning by seven wickets
  • Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma added a blazing 89-run opening stand
  • Chinelle Henry starred with the ball, picking up three crucial wickets

Delhi Capitals booked their place in a fourth consecutive Women’s Premier League final with a commanding seven-wicket win over Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator, successfully chasing 169 with more than four overs to spare. The victory sets up a title clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Vadodara on February 5.

Gujarat, who had an impeccable record batting first this season, were jolted early by disciplined bowling from DC. Chinelle Henry struck a major blow by dismissing Sophie Devine in the second over, while Nandani Sharma followed up with a double strike to remove Anushka Sharma and Ashleigh Gardner. Minnu Mani’s intervention left Gujarat struggling at 59 for 4, completely disrupting their usual dominance in first-innings totals.

Beth Mooney held the innings together with a composed, unbeaten 62, absorbing pressure as wickets fell around her. Georgia Wareham provided brief momentum with aggressive strokeplay, but Henry’s return in the death overs tilted the balance back towards DC. Late boundaries from Mooney helped Gujarat post a competitive 168 for 7.

Delhi’s response was emphatic. Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma finally fired together, racing to an 89-run opening stand that dismantled Gujarat’s bowling plans. Their fearless approach in the powerplay ensured DC were always ahead of the asking rate. After both openers departed, Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt stitched together a fluent partnership.

Jemis’ brisk 41 and Laura’s calm unbeaten knock ensured there were no late nerves, as DC cruised home with 26 balls remaining. Marizanne Kapp sealed the win, confirming Delhi Capitals’ reputation as the most consistent side in WPL history and keeping their title hopes firmly alive.
