TATA WPL 2026: Delhi Capitals knock out UPW, enter Eliminator

  • Delhi Capitals beat UP Warriorz by five wickets in a tense chase
  • Jemimah Rodrigues’ calm finish seals DC’s Eliminator spot
  • Delhi became the only team to reach the playoffs in all WPL seasons

Delhi Capitals sealed a tense five-wicket win over UP Warriorz to book their place in the WPL 2026 Eliminator, becoming the only franchise to reach the playoffs in all four seasons. In the process, they also ended defending champions Mumbai Indians’ campaign, who would have qualified had DC slipped up.

After restricting UP Warriorz to 122 for 8, Delhi appeared firmly in control before a dramatic wobble in the chase. Chasing a modest target, DC were cruising until a flurry of wickets reduced them from a position of comfort to one of real pressure, losing three wickets for just four runs and suddenly needing calm heads to see the game through.

That calm arrived in the form of Captain Jemimah Rodrigues. Her unbeaten 34 off 18 balls ensured there were no further scares and completed a chase that had briefly threatened to unravel.

Earlier, Marizanne Kapp and Laura Wolvaardt laid the foundation, with Wolvaardt top-scoring with 47 despite being handed multiple reprieves in the field. UP Warriorz created opportunities through disciplined bowling and early wickets, but costly dropped catches allowed Delhi to stay afloat.

With the ball, Kapp played a key role despite an uncharacteristically expensive power play, while debutant Charli Knott and captain Deepti Sharma struggled to steady UPW after a top-order collapse. UP Warriorz slumped to 76 for 7 before a late flourish from Shikha Pandey lifted them past the 120 mark.

In the end, UP Warriorz had just enough to apply pressure, but not enough to deny Delhi Capitals yet another playoff appearance, underlining their consistency across WPL seasons.
