TATA WPL 2026: DC Beat MI by 7 Wickets, Tighten Race to Playoffs

  • Delhi Capitals defeat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets
  • Jemimah Rodrigues stars with an unbeaten half-century
  • WPL points table tightens with four teams on four points

Delhi Capitals kept the WPL 2026 playoff race wide open with a thrilling seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians, restricting the defending champions and tightening the points table. Coming a day after RCB sealed qualification, the result left DC climbing off the bottom, while all teams except RCB now sit locked on four points.

Mumbai Indians once again struggled to build momentum with the bat on a slow Vadodara surface. Early wickets in the powerplay set them back, continuing a recurring issue this season. Nat Sciver-Brunt shouldered the responsibility yet again, anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 65, while Harmanpreet Kaur provided brief acceleration with a 41-run knock. However, Delhi’s bowlers, led by Shree Charani’s impactful three-wicket spell, consistently broke partnerships. A quiet finish meant MI could only reach 154 for 6, their lowest total of the season.

Delhi’s response was built on a strong start. A fluent powerplay, highlighted by confident strokeplay from Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee, sharply reduced the required rate. Although spin bowling and tighter lines slowed progress in the middle overs, captain Jemimah Rodrigues calmly took charge of the chase. Mixing placement with inventive strokes, she managed the tempo on a tricky pitch and brought up her maiden fifty of the season as captain.

With the pressure mounting, the skipper kept finding the gaps before Marizanne Kapp finished the contest with a six, sealing victory with an over to spare. With the last shot, Delhi Capitals ensured the race for the remaining playoff spots remains wide open in WPL 2026.
