TATA WPL 2025: Deepti Sharma appoint as Captain of UPW

Deepti Sharma has been appointed as the captain of the UP Warriorz for the 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL) season. She replaces Alyssa Healy, who is ruled out due to a recurring foot injury.

Deepti, a top all-rounder in women's cricket, will lead her home-state team for the first time. With experience in leadership roles, including captaining Bengal and East Zone domestic matches and leading Velocity in the Women's T20 Challenge, Deepti will guide her team through high-pressure situations. She was the top scorer and wicket-taker in the 2024 WPL season.

During TATA WPL 2024, Deepti scored 217 runs - eighth highest for runs and took 10 crucial wickets showcasing her all-round performance.

Former captain of UPW, Alyssa Healy was a standout player for the team during both the editions of TATA WPL. She scored 253 runs in 9 matches showcasing her aggressive batting style and ability to accelerate in the death overs making her a key player for the team during WPL 2023. Overall, she played 17 matches and scored 428 runs with a strike rate of 130.48. She smashed 3 half-centuries - 96* highest against RCB.
