Sushmita Konidela Joins Kanakadurga Temple Trust Board

Sushmitha Konidela, daughter of Megastar Chiranjeevi, has been appointed as a Special Invitee to the Trust Board of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, popularly known as Vijayawada Kanakadurga Temple. The temple is located atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Her appointment was formalized through an official government memorandum issued on September 7, 2026.

The nomination was made by the Revenue (Vigilance-VII) Department of the Andhra Pradesh government. The memorandum was issued by K Kanna Babu, Secretary to Government (FAC). Through the appointment, Sushmitha Konidela will be associated with the temple’s Trust Board in an advisory capacity and will contribute to its administration when required.

As a Special Invitee, Sushmitha will provide advice to the Executive Officer and members of the Trust Board based on her experience. The government order also assigns Special Invitees a role in supporting temple administration during major festivals, fairs and other important religious events. However, the appointment is primarily advisory in nature.

In the government memorandum, it has been mentioned that Sushmitha is nominated as a Special Invitee to the Trust Board of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada, NTR District. The responsibilities of the Special Invitees were also explained in the order which involves giving advice to the Executive Officer when necessary and helping the temple administration in the major temple festivals and fairs.

The Endowments Department has also been charged to make the necessary arrangements to appoint. The Commissioner of the Endowments Department, Vijayavada is directed to take further action in the matter accordingly.

The Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam dedicated to Goddess Kanaka Durga and Lord Malleswara Swamy is one of the prominent temples in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is located on Indrakeeladri hill, which overlooks the river Krishna, and is visited by many people throughout the year, especially during the Dasara festival.

Sushmitha is a popular name used in the Telugu Film Industry and forms part of the Konidela family. She's the daughter of actor-politician Chiranjeevi. The appointment of Special Invitees to the administration of the temple and activities as part of the festival continues in the Andhra Pradesh Endowment Department with her selection for the Trust Board of the temple.

The government memo does not state the number of years she will have in her position. Her duties will be carried out in conjunction with the Executive Officer and Trust Board of the temple, especially if she is called upon to offer advice and/or assistance.
