Attorney at Law and Velox Partners Co-Founder Lihini Fernando was among the 24 global individuals selected by the Eisenhower Fellowship (EF) for 2026.
EF has selected a total of 24 leading figures from government, business, and civil society worldwide to come for a six-week intensive learning journey in the US, where they will share knowledge and ideas with top professionals in their respective fields.
The Fellows, who hail from 24 countries, including several from the Asia and Africa regions, will be part of EF's spring Global Program for the period from 5 April to 14 May.
The EF is built on a rich tradition and was initially a one-of-a-kind birthday gift celebrating 34th President of the United States. Today, this nonprofit is providing a wide range of leadership development programs for progressive people from 115 nationalities worldwide. Until now, more than 2, 600 men and women have been trained through EF to achieve excellence in their respective fields.
The mission of EF is to find, develop, and support creative leaders who, once they have undergone the fellowship transformation, not only will they continue their engagement lifelong in the global network of vibrant change makers but will also be dedicated to manifesting a world that is more peaceful, prosperous, and just.
Fernando, a politician and a Member of the Council, a Founding Member of NextGen Sri Lanka, and a Co-Founding Partner at Velox Partners, a Sri Lankan law firm and legal process outsourcing company that provides tech-enabled legal services throughout Asia- has been a strong voice for women's representation in politics and the rule of law.
Fernando also participates in policy reforms and political training programs conducted by the Republican Institute and Westminster Foundation for Democracy.
When participating in a Fellowship, Fernando plans to initiate legal aid centers at the community level where free legal assistance will be made available to disadvantaged persons who cannot afford formal legal mechanisms. She will further the use of communication and advocacy tools to empower women and increase their participation and representation in politics.
