ShareTrip CEO Sadia Haque Leads UN Women in Trade Advocacy
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Monday, 17 August 2026
Sadia Haque, the co-founder and CEO of ShareTrip, has recently been appointed as the eTrade for Women Advocate for South Asia for 2026-2027 by the Secretary-General of UNCTAD. In this capacity, Sadia will be a part of discussions and initiatives that will help advance women's involvement in digital trade and entrepreneurship in South Asia.
Her appointment is particularly significant because she is the first Bangladeshi to become an eTrade for Women Advocate, making Bangladesh more visible on the world stage of digital economy.
The new role will entail Sadia taking up a regional representation role as a champion for the group of women entrepreneurs who are building and running their digital enterprises in South Asia.
Key Highlights:
- Sadia Haque becomes the first Bangladeshi eTrade for Women Advocate
- She represents South Asian women entrepreneurs in digital trade policy discussions
- Sadia drives ShareTrip’s travel innovation and six consecutive World Travel Awards
Sadia will take part in discussions related to digital space and digital economy and help in the Masterclasses and other community initiatives by eTrade for Women. This initiative aims at strengthening networking and supporting women entrepreneurs through digital empowerment.
"I'm honoured to take on this role at a time when South Asia's digital economy is creating new opportunities for women entrepreneurs. I know from experience that building a technology business takes more than a good idea, it takes access to networks, capital, knowledge and an ecosystem that gives women the opportunity to lead. I hope to use this platform to bring the experiences of women entrepreneurs in our region into the policy conversation and help make the path easier for those coming next," Sadia said.
Through its eTrade for Women program, UN Trade and Development nominates some few successful women entrepreneurs to champion the need for women’s inclusion in the digital economy. They help raise awareness about challenges like access to opportunity, digital markets, and conducive business environment by using their experience as women digital entrepreneurs when meeting with policymakers, government agencies, and regulatory bodies. Some previous advocates included representatives from diverse markets like Kenya, Egypt, Colombia, Malaysia, Senegal, Nigeria, Philippines, and India.
Ever since Sadia co-founded ShareTrip with Kashef Rahman in 2014, she has had an integral part in making ShareTrip a notable player in travel industry in Bangladesh. Leveraging Sadia’s experience and expertise, the company made automated refund facilities, date change facilities, and cancellation facilities available to make life easier for travellers at a time when such facilities did not exist in the country.
She was also responsible for making Bangladesh’s biggest inventory of hotels and resorts possible, thus bringing hundreds of offline hotels and resorts online. All these factors have resulted in ShareTrip becoming the first ever travel superbrand in Bangladesh and winning the World Travel Award six times consecutively from 2018.
Her appointment will be made official at UNCTAD in Geneva this September. She will strive to promote tourism locally and put Bangladesh on the digital map of the world through her work. ShareTrip has also partnered with Nusuk Masar of Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and runs ST Pay, a travel wallet, licensed by Bangladesh Bank.
