Shagun Seda joins Apple India as Chief Marketing Officer, after leaving her position as senior vice president and chief marketing officer of JioStar.

Shagun is slated to leave her current role as senior vice president and head of marketing creative strategy and communications at JioStar to take up the position of head of marketing communications at Apple India, according to sources familiar with the appointment.

Her recent departure from JioStar has come on the heels of her involvement in shaping the overall brand narrative and developing the marketing strategy at one of India's largest media and entertainment companies. The next move for Shagun, which is expected to happen with Apple India, represents a significant change in industry environments from broadcasting and streaming content to one of the largest and most powerful technology brands in the world.

At JioStar, she was part of the company's core leadership team and played an integral part in developing the initial brand strategy for the new company formed through the merger of Viacom18 and Star India.

Together, the joint venture, which has the support of both Reliance and Disney, boasts an enormous digital and television footprint, as evidenced by the fact that over 450 million users each month utilize either the digital or linear television platform from the combined companies.

In a broad reaching portfolio of sports and live entertainment properties, she has developed creative strategies and led marketing communications for the Indian Premier League, all ICC tournaments, Pro Kabaddi League, Wimbledon, and the Olympic Games, among other high-profile sporting events.

Her work extended beyond sports and also included marketing for large-scale cultural and experiential initiatives, including the live digital livestream of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres tour in India, which garnered millions of views and significant levels of engagement.

One significant contribution she made was developing and implementing the marketing strategy for IPL 2025 streamed across television and digital platforms, ultimately making IPL 2025 one of the most-watched seasons in the history of the IPL with nearly one billion combined viewers.

Also, she pioneered digital-first experiences such as live-streaming the major Indian festivals Mahashivratri and Ram Navami on JioHotstar, thereby providing millions of users with the opportunity to experience these festivals via connected devices as “virtual temples.”

She played a vital part in the team at Netflix India where she was the Head of Brand, Film and Series Marketing before JioStar. She helped re-position their brand from a premium, niche offering to a more accessible and culturally-relevant brand.

The campaigns she created for global titles like Money Heist and Stranger Things provided significant engagement and grew the number of subscribers to the platform.

She has run a number of leading creative agencies; she has established a good reputation for marrying the art of creative storytelling with the science of producing results.

Shagun’s appointment at Apple India comes as Apple continues to increase its commitment to the Indian market, including manufacturing, supply chain and consumer engagement efforts.
