Beginning July 1, around 52 lakh women across the state of Punjab will receive ₹1,000 per month under Mukhya Mantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana.

Announced by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state-backed financial assistance program will cater to state’s adult female population. Cards for 35 lakh beneficiaries have already been issued.

The Punjab government has structured the program to provide ₹1,500 monthly support to Dalit women and ₹1,000 to women from the general category. Existing recipients of social security pensions are likely to retain those benefits in addition to the new financial support.

Addressing the press conference convened to announce an amended and more expansive Kisan Credit Card scheme for farmers, the CM said, “We have set aside funds for the Mukhya Mantri Mawan Dhian Satkar Yojana. About 52 lakh women beneficiaries have been identified and cards have already been issued to 35-36 lakh of them. We are confident that all eligible beneficiaries will receive their cards by the end of this month,”

Key Highlights:

  • 52 lakh women identified for Punjab’s monthly income support scheme
  • ₹9,300-crore welfare program set to begin disbursements from July 1
  • Dalit women to receive ₹1,500 monthly; others ₹1,000

“Even if any eligible woman gets her card made in October, she will receive the grant from July 1 onwards. No one should think this scheme is an election ploy. It’s a long-term plan and will continue even after the polls,” said the CM.

Introduced as part of the 2026–27 Budget by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, the ₹9,300-crore initiative is projected to benefit 97% of the state's women, with limited exclusions for government personnel, tax assesses, and present or former MPs and MLAs.

The CM said the government has already allocated the funds required to provide financial assistance under the scheme. “No one should mislead the women of the state that this will run for just a few months. It will be a long-term scheme for the economic upliftment of women,” he added.

A key pledge made by the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections is set to be rolled out after facing sustained criticism from Opposition parties over delays. The initiative is also being viewed as a strategic effort to strengthen engagement with women voters who account for more than 48% of Punjab’s electorate.

The CM, who also holds the Cooperation Department portfolio, announced changes to the 26-year-old Kisan Credit Card scheme, where his government will digitise the entire process.
