Protein Pantry Raises Rs 9Cr in Seed Funding

High-protein frozen food brand Protein Pantry has raised Rs 9 crore in seed funding, led by Sharrp Ventures, with participation from Peercheque, Consumer Collective by Atrium and Indian Silicon Valley Capital. The round also saw participation from angel investors including Varun Alagh, Rishubh Satiya, Avnish Anand, Arush Chopra, Saurabh Munjal and Signal Ventures.

The company said the fresh funding will be used mainly to establish and scale its manufacturing facility. Protein Pantry also plans to invest in research and development and strengthen its supply chain as it expands its operations.

Founded in November last year by Disha Bhattacharya and Prashanth Bhushan, Protein Pantry is a clean-label frozen food brand focused on high-protein, ready-to-cook products for Indian consumers. Its products are made with kitchen-shelf ingredients and contain no refined flour, preservatives or palm oil, with a stated protein-to-calorie ratio of 1:10. The products are manufactured entirely in-house.

It is now live direct-to-consumer in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Jaipur, and on quick commerce platforms like Blinkit, FirstClub and Flipkart Minutes in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, says company Protein Pantry. The brand stated that it has helped more than 30,000 households and has a high repeat rate. It aims to go online as quick commerce in Pune, Kolkata, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Chennai by the end of the year.

The brand is going at a market segment dominated by protein supplements and protein snacks. It offers a range of products including soya chaap, kebabs, cutlets and falafels, which are baked as opposed to fried and prepared without refined flour, preservative or palm oil. The company also makes its marinades, sauces and chaap base in-house at its factory.

The brand is also working on new formats and plans to expand its list in the national capital of Delhi. It plans to expand its protein variety into different categories and become available in major cities of the country through direct-to-consumer and fast commerce within the next 12 to 24 months.

Recent investment in the segment has included Campus Fund's investment in Athenaprotein's pre-seed round in September of this year to scale the development of its high-protein food portfolio and cold-chain distribution, and Axtell Capital's $15 million investment in Stata's Venture Capital round in June this year.
