President Droupadi Murmu on wednesday highlighted that India is transitioning from women’s development to women-led development, stressing the importance of empowering and supporting daughters and sisters across society. She made these remarks while addressing a mass wedding ceremony for 251 girls, organized by Hindu seer Pandit Dhirendra Shastri at Bageshwar Dham in Garha village, Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh.
Praising Bageshwar Dham for organizing the mass wedding, where 251 couples were married, President Droupadi noted that to help these women become self-sufficient, sewing machines and other essential items are being provided to all the newlywed brides.
“I urge all women to keep striving for education and self-reliance. Your success will lead to the success of our society and our nation. We have set a goal to celebrate the centenary of our independence in 2047 and to transform India into a developed nation,” President stated.
The President praised Indian saints for their significant role in eliminating social evils and ensuring women have a respected place in society. She highlighted that India has now transitioned to women-led development.
Reflecting on the contributions of prominent saints, she remarked, “For centuries, saints in Indian tradition have led the masses through their actions and teachings. They have raised awareness about societal superstitions and urged people to reject untouchability and caste-based discrimination.”
In his speech, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that “each newlywed couple would receive financial assistance of Rs 51,000 under state government schemes”. Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel and Bageshwar Peeth's seer, Dhirendra Shastri, were also present at the event.
